Aftermarket replacement cat, o2 bung placement question...
Hey guys... my daily (2000 honda civic sir with factory b16 ) just came up with a check engine light for secondary o2.
i went under the car and took a peek and diagnosed it to be a faulty o2.
When i removed the o2, i noticed it was rubbing (hard) on the shifter linkage (its fwd)
being that i dont want to have to replace the o2 again being that it was likely engine vibrations through the shift linkage, i want to weld a new o2 bung on there which is no problem.
The current o2 bung is mid-cat on this aftermarket unit. do i have to weld the new bung mid-cat or can i install it in the inch or 2 of pipe between the cat and the catback 3 bolt flange such that it operates properly and doesnt throw a code?
thanks
Matt

Is the body of the o2 sensor whats receiving the damage or the wires coming out of it from your shift linkage? Pics?

Hello,
I am new to the forum and need help. I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX Automatic (4 door) with 144,000 miles in Illinois.
My check engine light came on and I took it to my mechanic. He quoted me the following to fix it:
(1) CAT Converter (Part -$710) & (Labor - $128)
(2) Pre & post 02 Sensor (Part - $241) & (Labor - $23)
I feel like he is trying to screw me. He said they were rusted, and I think something about a manifold. I am an accountant and not a mechanic, so I am not that familiar with some of the things he was saying.
Can someone help guide me in the right direction?
I've also noticed an unusual rattling noise around the same time as the check engine light, is this related?
Is this the parts that I need?

Thank you all for any info you can provide.
