It's just quality with AEM then again if you get the ebay intake and quality filter I don't see how it would make a 'huge' difference.

Buy the most expensive intake you can find, and then buy a Carbon fiber Mug3n hood, it will pretty much be the fastest civic ever.
Keep it in the tech forums, this topic has been beaten to death. Brougth back to life, beaten again, and finally laid to rest one more time.
Use the search, theres probably hundreds of threads about intakes.

short ram has better throttle response but suffers from heat soak. cold air has better top end but can hyrdolock.
living in socal rain isnt that big of issue for you so i would go with cai.

Ebay off brand CAI + K&N filter =
Buy AEM if you want, but the only thing you're paying for is the two stickers that it comes with.
EDIT: and maybe the carb sticker if you're in Cali

Why is that? I think an AEM cold air is great. I've had two now and I've seen the Injen for my car. Same thing really.

Actually you can have any intake you want, as long as all the stuff that was hooked up to the stock intake arm is hooked up to the new intake arm you are technically carb legal......how many times have you been pulled over and your hood was popped for them to say "Oh, your intake is fine because it has that AEM sticker on it."? The large majority of cops in California either don't know or don't give a **** about carb legal crap.
With that said, I would get the ebay intake and the K&N filter. Who cares about the extra 2 maybe 3hp you'll get from a name brand with R&D. They are all the same damn thing.

Not in San Diego and LA. If you get pulled over, and they see anything other than stock, you're sent to the Ref. If you have a carb legal intake with the CARB EO sticker on the intake, there's a good chance you're still going to the Ref for them to "verify" it. Police in So Cal are knowledgable when it comes to the very basic bolt on's.
