Default Advancing a cam gear then setting the idle speed?

My topic is brought up just because I want to make my car run smoother. I'm wondering if I should set my idle speed while while my cam gear is advanced 2' or if I should set it back to 0' then set the idle speed? My Chilton's manual says that the D16z6 engines are to idle at 670 +/- 50 rpm's and it sits at 1,000 now(at 2' advance).
