Adding Keyless Entry
I have a 94 Civic EX 4dr. I want to add keyless entry to it. Oem Honda if at all possible. I was just at the dealer and they told me the accessory kit was discontinued and suggested aftermarket. However, I don't want to go that route.
So, what do I need to get to install it myself? Has anyone done this before or have they just gone aftermarket? Any help will be appreciated.

the person from the dealer that told you that they were discontinued should be moping up floors and cleaning restrooms...
only keyless entry available for 92-95 civics are all aftermarket.. there is no other alternative

There is no USDM or CDM keyless entry for the 5thgen, though at the moment, Im working on retro fitting a First Gen's CR-V lock module to replace the one in my door.

The aftermarket units work very well, and are considerably simpler than trying to find and retrofit all the OEM parts/harnessess.
If it's planned out and installed well, they work great. I did my doors when I installed the alarm and no issues with the keyless entry going on one year. On the 96-00 at least, you can use a sedan rear door handle to eliminate the lock.
You need to make sure you properly align and size the actuator push rods with the lock linkage to avoid stress on the actuators.

I have power locks on my 94 EX. That's why I thought it would be easy to get keyless. But of course japan gets all the cool stuff!

What aftermarket brand actuator did you buy/ would recommend?
You don't necessarily need the "high powered" actuators, but they are thinner than the standard actuators and fit better in the doors. In fact, I didn't need to cut any metal or bend the push rods in any way.
Here is a picture of what the actuators look like. The contours of the trunk make it look crooked, in actuality, it's very well centered.
This is the one installed as a trunk popper. I used cable linkage on the trunk since the actuator only needs to make a pulling motion. This avoids having to cut into the metal near the lock to install an actuator rod.
Because it's installed on the roof (top center) of the trunk, it doesn't affect the center of gravity in any meaningful way so the stock torsion bars are able to pop the trunk.
It also keeps the actuator away from objects in the trunk.

Just sayin' here that there WAS an OEM optional security system that included remote power locks for the 5th Gen. But why you would want to try to source 20-y.o. technology when you could get brand new aftermarket is beyond me.

OP: there are plenty of choices for just remote locks ... look at anything by DEI, for starters. However, I would strongly suggest that an actual security system (begin by reading THIS) would be a much much much much much much better idea.
Incidentally I own one of those JDM infrared remote locks setups mentioned earlier in the thread (came on a junker I bought). I'd never bother putting it on my ride because it only works within 2m from the car .... and you have to walk around and aim it to the passenger's side!! (ie., the driver's side on a JDM RHD car.....)

It was available in North America IIRC. I'm almost positive it's mentioned in the back of the '94 Civic sales brochure. It is possible it was just the OEM security system though.
Any members out there have this OEM option?
deschlong, can you post a more zoomed picture of the circuit diagram as this could benefit members who happen to have the option.
OEM security system was offered in Canada in 1993, then Canada & US beginning 1994 - if I recall correctly.
Diagram is multi-page and different for Canada vs. US. I'll post proper scans instead of pics. Until then, this link will have to do.
