Acura 1.6 El a/c controls....anyone ever??
I found this picture on the net, it is of a canadian acura 1.6el, which is a lux'ed out civic with an acura badge. Look at the picture
Please disreguard the stupid dash neon above the console and right above the cd player...thanks
Now I have a 98 civic hatch, and I hate the a/c-radio bezel design, the radio is too high, and the a/c sliders look likte they are out of the 80's, and most of all I have no clock.
I concidered changing over to the 99-00 civic bezel, better a/c controls, better radio mounting. But I cant get any real good information on this swap, and I hear you basically have to change over to OBDIIb, wiring to make it work, along with a ecu from a 99-00 civic, sounds like too much work for what its worth.
So I called acura of canada, and got a breakdown of the parts involved with this EL bezel.
What I need to know:
1. Has anyone tried this?
2. Are the a/c controls compatable?
3. Will the blower vent case meet up to the suddley different vent design?
I figure that in 97 and 98 the EL had the slider mix door like the US 96-98 civics had, and in 99 they changed there as well. I dont see why then I couldnt use it right? And I could wire up the clock myself, and the hazard light switch should be plug and play. Any arguements?
If no one has done this, can you help me find a more simple way to retro fit the 99-00 controls?
Thanks for reading guys..

Re: (4g4me)
Looks to me that since its still the slider design that it should work on 96-98's no problem. The 99-00 looks really nice also but is a damn pain in the *** to get it to work right. Go for the EL conversion. Looks nice.

If you find out more info let me know. I like that alot better then mine. Aftermarket radio in a 96-98 looks like crap.

I think you should go for it... i think they climate controls should fit if not it shouldnt be as complicated as the 99-00 civic climate control to mod in since they are both sliders designs... If you think you can handle something like tat i go for it if the costs for the EL parts arent too expense to experiment for idea

what parts did they tell you that you needed? if i can get the parts i will gladly experiment and see just what has to be done to get it to work. i agree, those climate controls look alot better than the 96-98 civics and i dont want to go through all that trouble to swap in controls from the 99-00. so if you would give me a list of parts and where i could get them from and i will do it and write a complete tech post on it.

Damn...thats nice as hell. So much better than the civic controls.

Well, check this out
Call this number (416) 867-1577,and ask them to pull up illustration # 5524b3710
tell him to send or fax this to you, it only takes a minute
This is the diagram of the parts related. Then ask for the prices for the part numbers needed, as a matter of fact, i might call them myself to furthur put this project into perspective.

Yes, their center console is lower than ours, and the optional cd player is located right under the radio in the ABOVE pic, here is another pic.
I like our center console better, but the lower DIN opening/cig lighter is cool too.

Guys, remember. Your 99-00 Civic climate controlis electrically moved. 97-00 EL's is cable operated, so you gotta do some conversion.
There was a guy who was asking me about it. Price from Canadian dealer...
Sorry, I didn't save your PM, I totally forgot who you were. Hopfully you are reading this and get it from AcuraEL above.
