AC & Gas Issue *UPDATED*
ok well i lost my old thread and couldnt find it. but i found another issue that needs to be looked at.
UPDATE: from the last thread i had no A/C what so ever. now it gets cold for 10 mins. then gets hot. works 1 day then stops the next. i thought since its acting like that it could be one certain thing causing it.
my other issue is my gas milage i usually get around 150-107 miles at half tank and 300-340 to the tank. now im getting 130 to the half and 250-270 to the tank. i just want a list of things i could check.
thanks guys. ill be back. to check on the replies!
*UPDATE*
the other day i started my car before work. headed to work. i heard this LOUD SQUEEKING NOISE! like a damn bird beside my ear. i think its my serpentine belt?
will a bad belt effect anything bad? is this something i need to fix? in case if its the belt that is.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
For the gas, check your plugs, wires, distributor, PCV valve, air filter, oil. These cna all effect MPG. I recently changed my PCV valve an woah what a difference a $2 part can make, plus it helped my idle out alot too. Thats all Ive got so get to it and update us. Bump

Re: AC & Gas Issue
On my D16 it is right above the oil filter on the back of the block by the fire wall. All it takes is a flat head screwdriver and 10-15 minutes of your time. It was easier to get it off when u took the filter off but can be done without doing so. Its $2 at a autoparts store.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
Is the CEL ON?
When the A/C doesn't work does the condenser fan fail to run or does the compressor clutch fail to engage?

Re: AC & Gas Issue
CEL stands for Check Engine Light. It looks like the avatar Ron has. Is that on? If it is, it can have a severe effect on your MPG. There's a sticky at the top of the forum that gives instructions on how to pull the code or you can go to Autozone and they'll check the code for you. If it's on and you pull the code, post your results here and we'll be able to help you further.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
have you had the charge checked on your A/C system? it could be really low on 134. If you are running the AC while you have been driving lately you are going to see a large reduction in mileage compared to your non-AC driving.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
It's important to have the A/C refrigerant pressures measured on both the low and high sides. These measurements may indicate that the refrigerant simply needs to be recharged or that there is a problem in the system.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
It could also be a problem with the CEL circuit or a cut wire, but check the bulb first. Under normal conditions, the CEL is designed to turn ON for 2 seconds and then turn OFF when you turn the key to ON(II). Did you recently purchase your Civic? Unscrupulous sellers often disable the CEL to hide engine and emissions problems.

Re: AC & Gas Issue
i would take the ac issue to a mechanic so the pressures can be checked.
my guess is you are 1, low on freon or, 2 have a high head pressure (a blockage in the system somewhere) causing the compressor to kick on and off more than it should.
my first guess being freon of course, cause if you are low on freon the compression simply wont turn on.
if you want to check something yourself you can do this as well.
when it is not working, check to see if 12v are getting to the compressor

Re: AC & Gas Issue
My guess is the bulb might just be burnt out. Inspect the green circuit paper stuff on the back of your cluster. Make sure there aren't any tears of any sort. You could try moving one of the bulbs from the SRS light or something and putting it in the place of where the check engine light is supposed to go to see if it will work. Like Ron said, when you put the key in and turn it to on(II), the CEL should flash on and flash back off after a few seconds.
