99 civic si- swap
I want to hear what you guys think. i have a 99 si and i am unhappy with the motor i got the car in pretty good shape on the outside but the motor is pretty beat up and i want to do a swap. I was wanting to go H series with an H2B kit since i already have a good tranny. right now i cant decide if i should rebuild it or swap it which all my buddys have told me is best. Also should i go a jdm h22a which i can get for 1000 jus long block or should i go jdm h23a vtec bluetop which i can get for 850 bucks if i do swap it. thanks in advance for helping

Get that B16 outta there and put in one of those H series!
You'll have more power AND gain torque, which feels non-existent with the B16.
Either H is fine, but look into some of their differences and see which aligns with your goals better.

Not sure if you can keep your A/C with an H though.... anyone else know?

Re: 99 civic si- swap
I'd turbo the B16 if I were you. Personally I'd stick with a b-series since the car was designed with that motor.
Do you want better performance overall or do you have something in mind?
Maybe I'll buy your B16A2 if that is really what you have. Let me know.

TURBO FTW! With the amount of money invest into doing a H22/23, you can easily go turbo and keep you AC too! There's alot of potential in a b16. Build what you already have.

i think i have made up my mind and keep the b series and rebuild it first and a five angle valve job... what would you recomend i do after that ... should i change the bottom end bigger or keep it or is it better how it is

Re: 99 civic si- swap
How much power are you looking for? Just a little more than what you have or a turbo monster?
If you just want a faster DD an H22 with some N/A goodies would do the trick.
Or you could just build the B16 then boost. I wouldn't bother swapping, THEN building THEN going turbo. Not worth it.
I personally don't like the b16's but if its what you already have, building and boosting it would make for a fun street car with plenty of nuts.

Save your money and don't do a 5 angle valve job. That is a waste unless you are planning on doing a crazy NA build. Do what I did...build the bottom end with good pistons and rods. Then boost it.

Re: 99 civic si- swap
grab a GSR block and throw ur B16 head on it (create a Poor-Man's Type-R). that would be a PERFECT base for whatever u wanna do next.
u will have the torque u want and a bunch of power.

Do a compression and a leak down to help you start fixing your issue.
I like the poorman's R idea, but let's get the current issue resolved first.

Re: 99 civic si- swap
I would get the turbo instead of the rebuild.
Rebuilds are really expensive unless you do it yourself. The labor costs are really high.
If you are going to pay to have the engine rebuilt then you could do a swap with a JDM engine for about the same cost.

What I should have said is get the turbo before you do anything else. Then when/if your engine finally fails, either get a rebuild or swap it with a newer engine.

Re: 99 civic si- swap
i would sell the b16 that you have and get whatever you can for then buy another b16 an supercharge it you would be a lot faster then any another swap that your going to do and the best part is that youll will stay CARB LEGAL...at a price of a h-series swap...

Re: 99 civic si- swap
well seems to me u have ur mind set on a H, but when i became unsatisfied with me b16 in my em1, i rebuilt it, and turboed it. i have maybe 3 grand in it. did all work myself and parted a turbo kit together. so for the price of a swap i have a fresh rebuild boosted b16. but realy man its up to u and what u want.
