Default '99 Civic EX Aluminum Oil Pan Hondabond or no?

I'm working on a friend's '99 Civic EX with the Aluminum oil pain that is getting replaced along with a rear main seal/clutch job.

I've bought a new gasket from the dealer for it along with some Hondabond and while I've searched around for an answer as to whether to use it or not, I'm sort of confused. It seems that many of these engines have a stamped steel pan and use a different gasket than the aluminum pans and I've read about using Hondabond with them, but am confused about where to use it if at all on this pan.

Thanks!

To clarify, I should put some Hondabond on the block on the vertical portions only, correct? Inside or outside of the seal or both?

Y8 is slight different style gasket but Hondabond is used in the same place. Make sure to torque in the correct sequence and specs.

So many people fail to do this properly yet wonder why their oil pan leaks... good info provided here

Thanks for the excellent information, guys!

One more question, am I correct in reading above that my oil pan requires Hondabond on the threads of the pan bolts?

TomCat39: Wouldn't re-torquing the bolts after a time damage the Hondabond that was applied to the threads? Assuming it was applied, of course.

Thanks for the clarification!

And thanks to everyone for all the help!

I've done tons of mechanic work and have a small shop where I work on older Volvos. I've done quite a lot of wrench-turning over the years and I used to own an '81 Accord that I did all sorts of work on, although it didn't need that much.

This is what I usually work on:
