99 civic 4dr mods
Well hello everyone,
I am looking to get more power out of my 99 civic 4dr LX. It handles great on curves etc. but has lackluster acceleration when getting on the highway. It's paid off so I'm not afraid to take some risks. I am already in the market for a new exhaust and cold air intake. I know you could write several books on the subject, so any model specific info would be welcomed.

Re: 99 civic 4dr mods
hey man. what kind of budget are u on?
a cheap upgrade is to put a VTEC cylinder head on your motor. the VTEC heads come on EX model civics.
is your car 5 speed?
if u really want a big gain in power, u might want to consider doing an engine swap or putting a turbo kit on your motor.
*oh yeah 4 door's are the BEST

Wow, that's a really clean 4-door. I don't normally like 4 doors much, but I'd rock that one and turn it into a sleeper.
As everyone said, D16y8 headswap and transmission would be your most bang for the buck. On a good day, if you're lucky, you could find both in a junkyard for $100 each.
As for CAI and exhaust: I've heard good things about the Powerchamber intakes (lots of companies make them... passwordjdm comes to mind). The AEM CAI is well thought of although not recommended in flood-prone areas. Or, just drop in a K&N and remove all the resonator piping. Despite what lots of people say, it's not going to make it overly loud, and will give you a bit of power.
For exhaust, the apexi WS2 sounds AMAZING, but no exhaust is really going to give you much power. Rule of thumb is that if you actually want power from an import exhaust it's going to sound obnoxious. If it sounds good, it won't give you much power. Just how it is.

Wow ya'll,
Thanks for the great info everybody. Yes it is a 5 speed. Yes I am on a budget, had a chunk of cash, spent it on the paint, plugs, a cache of OEM oil filters, wheels, etc. need to change timing belt and water pump ASAP.
Talked to a guy about engine swap, a little out of my budget for this project, a new cylinder head and tranny sounds like the ticket. So I take it that the D16 motor is the only one that has directly interchangeable components?
I will be back with more head scratchers.........
Vindicator9000, thanks for the links as well.
