Default 99-00 hatch trunk release

ok so i've searched the hell out of h-t and I couldn't find exactly a solution to this..

the 99-00 hatch's didn't come with even a manual release for the hatch, meaning to open it you have to use a key each time. after ripping open the lock mechanism for the hatch, i've found out there is no way it will let you open the lock and "pop" the hatch in the same motion (i.e. through the use of a solenoid for example). if there was a manual release cable, this would have been possible... but there isn't.

i found out that 96-98 hatches came with a manual release cable, but the locks aren't the same as 99-00 so they won't fit (is this right?).

i would want to open the hatch remotely, theres a compustar 2wfm900-as installed on the car now.

anyone have something like this working successfully?

Odd, my 98 hatch doesn't have any cable.

Old vw guys use to go to the junk yard and take a solenoid from some POS american car and wire it up to their dash. Hit the button and pop! If you are creative I am sure you could do something similar.

I have a 98 DX hatch, Canadian spec, and I am unaware of any hatch release cable. Unless I have been retarded and can't find it. I know sedans have one.

My 99 cx (cdn model) has a lever just like a door would have to open it. Lever is just above the rear license plate. Im not sure if usdm have a different hatch than us canadians.

I got a 98 hatch and no lever, I tried to install one from my wrecked coupe but the hatch components didn't allow for it to happen.

Only the 96 and 97's came with the interior release, both CDN and US models.
98 to 00 got the light on the dash telling you the hatch isnt closed all the way insted. It can be converted but your better off swaping the actual hatch for an older one,way to many parts to buy separatly.

yea i already have a solenoid with wiring, and a button to activate it. The problem is I would have to use both a actuator (to open the lock) and then use the solenoid to physically pop the hatch open (in two separate actions) because theres no manual release cable (which would do both at the same time). sucks.......

if there was a manual release, I could simply replace the manual cable with the cable from the solenoid and boom, remote hatch release. or they could even work together... whatever.

so 96-97 hatch doors should bolt right up to 99-00 with zero fitment issues?

I have a 96 hatch cdn model no level on the trunk but i hooked up a solenoid to it to pop my trunk and it works fine.. I dont have it hook up to a button but i have it hooked up to my alarm and it works perfectly.

Just a thought, if you want a single step you could just always keep it unlocked all the time and remove the handle on the outside. The downside is that you would have to always unlock it using the solenoid and if that thing were to break (a likely hood seeing as it is home made, no offence).

Cheers.

Oh, maybe run 2 solenoids? One for the lock one for release?

haha no offence taken and you're probably right.

yea I've looked into that too. The solenoid only "pulls", it's not like an actuator (door lock style) that can "push" and "pull".. so it would have to be a actuator/solenoid combo if anything... I see no possible way that both of those would fit back there without ALOT of modification though....

you don't happen to have a pic of exactly where the solenoid is pulling on the latch to pop it open do you? maybe i'm just an idiot and am missing the obvious.
did the car have a manual release cable before?
