Default 99-00 EK hatch A/C optional?

I found a clean hatch and i was suprised to see it didnt have A/C, the owner said he didnt have it when he purchased the car, can someone tell me if A/C was standard in CX and DX hatches? All the hatches i've been looking at has A/C but this one didnt, it didnt even have the button for A/C on the center console.

i believe a/c and p/s were optional in both models. neither came standard. i remember a thread a while back on whether or not dx's or cx's came with p/s or not.

A/C is an option I think. My DX doesn't have A/C. It has a little plastic piece that covers the spot where the A/C LED/Button goes. If you remove the little plastic piece you'll see that it says "A/C" on there and it has a little green LED... but yeah. Just roll down the windows.

A/C was an option on both models, my old DX had it, my new CX doesnt.

power steering only came on CX's and DX's with automatic transmissions, it wast even an option on manuals for some reason.

A/C has always been an accessory for CX and DX models; it was never standard.

The new DX's also have A/C as an option. Had to have it installed at the dealer for my mom's car. Got it real cheap though, since they had matched price from handaaccessories.com.

Power steering wasn't an option. (Not from Honda anyway).) They eather had it from the factory, or they didn't.

IS it expensive to install an A/C system to this car that originally didn't have it? Won't there be drilling of some sort to get the pipes mounted on the car? Also will this be expensive to buy a complete used or new A/C system and make it work on the car ? (overall price)

yeah, like i said, automatics had P/S, manuals didnt.

if you had the dealership install the A/C system, it would probably be about 2-3 hours work of labor.

There is a big difference between a dealer-installed option (a.k.a. "accessory") and something that is installed at the factory.

Generally, Hondas do not have "factory options," they only have dealer-installed options. Honda uses "trim levels" (i.e. DX, LX, EX) - which are like feature packages that cannot be changed - instead of individual factory options.

thanks for the replies guys, but as I asked earlier, with one response on a dealer 2-3 hour install, besides that... is it easy to install an A/C system to this car that originally didn't have it? Will there be drilling of some sort required? Also will this be expensive to buy a complete used or new A/C system and install it on the car?

if you want a good working system, then buy it new. you never really can tell the condition of a used one, but buying used would save you a lot of money. the install should be pretty much bolt-on. i've never installed or removed an A/C system, so i'm probably not the person to be answering this question, but for some reason everyone else is jacking the thread.

The Honda a/c kits are easy to install, no drilling required. The hard part may be finding one.

Honda no longer makes the kits for installing A/C so unless you find a dealer that happens to have one sitting on a shelf, new isn't really an option. I sourced parts for my A/C install from E-bay, another forum and a local wrecker. In total I think it was around $1200(Canadian) but I think I could do it more cheaply now. I found an installation manual online and it was pretty straightforward to add it to my DX hatch (which came with power steering standard; one of the reasons we bought it instead of a CX)

now i know the difference between factory and accesory.

my dx doesnt have power steering!

so all dx's and cx's come from the factory without p/s and a/c and then dealers add them to the cars individually?
