Default 98 Civic Runs hot after head gasket job, wtf?

So i pulled the head and put in a new head gasket thinking that was why my car was oevr heating. Well yesterday i finished wrenching on it and it still ran hot to the point where it over heated. I pull over and saw no evidence of any leaks. So i release the pressure from the cap and let it sit for a min and then it cooled down and was able to make it home.

Could i the water pump be bad? Or maybe its the Radiator? I would hate to think the head is bad but then again i didnt have the machine shop check to make sure it was still in good shape. Yeah i know, bone head mistake!

So what should i do at this point to rule out the head being the culprit?

Thanks!

The head may be warped and needs to be milled flat.

In the meantime, you might try replacing the thermostat and bleeding the cooling system.

I had the head resurfaced and as far as bleeding the system how would i go about doing so? Unlike my Ef's i didnt see a nipple on Heads upper rad hose connector. tHE t-STAT WAS REPLACED before i did the head gasket. Should i run without it to see if maybe the T stat is sticking? Maybe i should get an OEM one instead of the Autozone brand.

Also, i torqued the head botls to 53 ft-lbs.

Don't run without a T-stat.

---------------------------------------
The bleed procedure may take 20-30 minutes:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

To bleed the system, just run the car with the radiator cap off and have the heat on full blast. If all else fails, go for a leak down test.
