So i left work at 2pm last monday no problem, i had to be back at 4pm... when i went to get in my car, the driver door wouldnt open. Thinking my eBay alarm/keyless entry took a dump i put my key in the door to "unlock" it... but the key moved freely as if id was already unlocked.

Needless to say I've been entering my honda civic like it was the general lee

I searched the issue on HT and found an AWESOME write-up about it and after several attempts i was finally able to hit the release "pin" and open the door. that's only step one though
What i really need now is to know if i can pull the old assembly and fix it or if i need to buy a whole new one?? a TINY piece broke off the latch that the cable attaches to to free the door from the jamb... so im assuming new

also somethings jacked up with the window regulator, about a quarter of an inch from being rolled all the way up it starts making a nasty knocking sound and the window sort of jumps. Im thinking its something with either the gears in the motor itself or the big one at the top of the arms

any insight on either of these problems is greatly appreciated

Regarding your second problem..

It is the window regulator that has to be replaced, more than likely some of the teeth are warn and slipping... I had the exact same problem on my 97 ex not that long ago, it is an easy fix! I will try to find that write up that I used on here if needed.
