97 Civic coupe - What HID bulb size for my Headlight?
I have a 97 civic coupe
and i wanted to get some HID's for my car and i noticed it said the bulb size was H2 but it doesnt list the H2 option to choose BUT it says it fits the 97 civic?
So i called a friend and he said its H4?
any idea on what the front headlights bulb size is for the correct HID kit?
thanks

All 1992-2000 US Civics use an H4 (aka 9003 or HB2) headlight bulb, which is a dual filament bulb (there's a high and low beam filament in there so you only need one bulb instead of two).
I have no idea about HIDs besides all the conversions look funny and the beam doesn't always turn out so well. Oh, and that the crazy colors looks really dumb (and it's super illegal).

Eran made a thread years back going over different headlight options. Some get pretty bright. If you want something good just steer clear of auto parts store bulbs.

These bulbs will probably be your best bet besides doing an HID retrofit.
I have them and theyre great, Its also been over a year with them. Other brands like silverstar or any other generic brand that will blow out on your within a few months.
Also try to stay away from any Halogen bulbs that are painted blue. The color may look cool but the light output is terrible and when its raining you cant even tell your headlights are on.

Re: What bulb size is my Headlight?
ok yes
im looking for something bright that can let me see during the dark with oncoming traffic because a log of bulbs will cancel out and u cant see ****!
or during the rain or any hardcore weather conditions, i need lights i can count on 24/7 when needed.
so thats why i was aiming for HID's
but if i can find another solution or another bulb then i will go with that

Re: What bulb size is my Headlight?
Are they illegal in the states? Idk, I do know the highbesms are bright as hell and its a nice crisp white light.
Now, If youre really set on HID's then check out DDM tuning. They have nice Plug N play kits. But, Putting HID's into a non projector housing creates problems with glare/shadows and just throwing the light in a million different directions from the reflectors in your halogen headlight housing.

Not to be mean, but it English your second language?
The member Eran made a thread going over good light bulbs. You should see it you can find it. I think his suggestion was Phillips Nighthawks (not sure of the name really) or something like that.

Philips makes the extreme power H4 bulb.

Whatever they were, I think Eran's favorite headlight bulbs were only available in Europe or somewhere else overseas.

OP, if you are positive the lenses are not hazed on your lights, which happens often on older civics...

these bulbs are awesome:

they don't look cool, and are a little expensive, but they offer incredible lumen output and bulb life compared to pretty much any other bulb on the market. the only downside is, like i said, they don't look cool. the light is your normal ~3000kish type light.
also, i've had great success with hella high performance bulbs. even the stock wattage 9003 (h4) work well - i use them in my vision plus conversions on my '87 montero. they are a very bright white output. my wife has the stock wattage 9005 and 9006 in her car. i've replaced both sets once in over 3 years - that car has the high beams partially activated as DRL so everytime she drives over the 70K+ she's driven in that car, the lights are on.
the key with them and any bulb is cleaning them with alcohol before installation and not touching them to anything during installation.
the high wattage hellas are incredible, too. most of the time, on a japanese vehicle, i'd be concerned about running higher wattage bulbs due to small gauge wiring, but it seems the setups that use dual filament bulbs, like yours, handle uprated wattage better. the problems most people see are from high wattage poorly constructed bulbs that have high resistance or inconsistent draw and you end up frying a harness. you could always upgrade your harness to assure yourself safety - nokya makes 'em OR you could run a relay setup. that is VERY easy to do and assures your lights get the voltage they need without any safety compromise.
the only downside of the hella bulbs is they have the same tint color of the colored portion of the nightbreakers, so that means when the bulb is off you will see a little blue in the reflector. that is mildly annoying but i've gotten used to it.
i like nightbreakers, but i've found them to perform similarly to the hella bulbs and the hella bulbs are easier to source.

I had nightbreakers for a while, and i loved them. Only thing i didnt like is they are a little harder to get.
I wish i never got rid of them.
