Default 96 spec-r B18c vs K20 type S what to choose???

Whats up guys.. I own a 96 coupe ek and im gettin ready to do a swap.. For one I'm a die hard type R guy .. But i been going back n forth on either to swap k20 Aspec motor or a 96 spec-r B18 what do you guys suggest..

if you are doing the swap on your own. then go for b-series but if you have all the tools (dremel and welder) or taking it too the shop. then go H. lolz

IMO, the B-series is much more user friendly. The K will give you more starting and overall power but will leave your wallet with less money. The B will give you a enough power to have fun with and parts are cheaper.

Go with the K if you can afford it. 96 spec B18C would be pretty lame in comparison. Especially if you're using the 4.4 final tranny.

i want to hear the reason why u dont like a H swap, must better then B-series more hp & tq and cost pretty much the same. And for how much a k20 swap will cost it wont u could make a H22 so much faster with less money. i call it the K20 killer, H2B swap. but everyone has there own way of doing things so that my opinion. good luck with ur Ek coupe.

Depends on what you like doing with your car. If you're into circuit racing or auto-x or gymkhana then an H series isn't ideal as Hondas with torque don't like to turn. However if you're into drag racing then you can't go wrong with a motor that starts its life out as a 2.2L

I mean h motors are not bad at all i mean they are badass motor.. but remember the motor is more heavier and i still i have to do some custom work to put it in because is a huge motor bearly leaving any space for me to work on.... 96 spec r b18 is already bring 200 right off the bat... Intake, headers, exhuast, camgears, camshaft, a couple of fuel mods with a good tune i should be making like 250 to 260 to wheels.. I just dont like that huge motor on it..

Your numbers are a bit inflated. A freshly rebuilt '96 spec B18C might make 200 at the crank but it ain't making 200 at the wheels.

If you can K series would be better, More available locally ( can get them easily at junk yard ). and more potential down the road with a hybrid ( example k24 bottom with k20 head ) or other great examples. Newer motors still produced

But for fun and saving some cash I would go with the B series. ( downside these motors have not been produced in atleast 10 years )

the K series swap == in the 6 to 10 thousand

the b18c5 96 spec == in the $ 5000

I personally would go GSR and then add one goodies down the road, that suit your wants ( example if you want NA, get cams and valvetrain ) . or boost setup.

Go k-series if you have the means to pay for it. Don't use the credit card to pay for it.

Ive seen this same thread so many times. I've tried both. in stock form B is cheaper and easier. K has a better power range, more torque everwhere and a 6 speed. You get what you pay for.

Im guessing though that you won't end up doing either of these swaps.

wtf of course i will would why would have even botter to make these thread... The thing is im getting the b18 spec-r for 3600 complete ready to jump in the car... when if i get a k20 ima have to spend like 6 grand on the swap just to get the car running...

2003 k20a type R motor compared to a 96 b18c type R? and you seriously don't know which one to choose?

Sorry to say it but this thread is going to get locked because its a K vs B type of thread again which we all know will lead to great arguments about how one is better than the other.. (sarcasm) -_-

I tend to disagree... you must have a H series swap... If i was swapping and had money I would do the K series, if you are looking for an easier swap then go with a B series... B series is easy to come by for parts and what not due to the fact that B series parts interchange and have more possibilities depending on how much power you are after... if something breaks, it's also easier to fix...

thats true i mean ive been around plenty of 9 to 8 seconds b series and 1000hp k's but remember we are not talking bout to regular b series... We are talking bout jspec 96spec-r b18c is 200 to the crank wow the rsx is 20 hp more but u know how much money i have to spend in swapping then buying parts.... And how they say if it breaks god knows how much more i have to spend...

Seems like you answered your own question.

Go b series. " it aint a tight car if it aint a type R " hehe , Drop in and go for $ 3600 is great. Go for that and call it a day.

I would also go with a b series engine. It is an easy swap. The K series swap is much more complicated and far more expensive.
