96+ sohc swap into 92-95
what would I need to put a 96-00 sohc swap into a 92-95 civic? The only thing I know is obd1 ECU and wiring harness. Not so sure about the mounts, axles, shift linkage.

i think you need to change out the mounts too, im not sure though. the ek chasis is different from the eg chasis, so you might need to change one or two mounts.

no you dont need to change the mounts. You might have to change some plugs on the intake manifold depending on the motor. Also, you dont need a wiring harness. Your wiring harness plugs right in or you may have to change some plugs around. what kind of SOHC from 96-00? engine code and year please.
This is usually a bolt in, plug in affair.

97 sohc vtec. Basically, I have 92 civic shell and might be getting a 97 sohc vtec swap for it.

eeasy swap. You just need to swap over your OBD1 injectors. Everything else should plug right in. The motor bolts in with no mods to mounting brackets. Just use your EG mounts and brackets and you're good to go. Two OBD2 sensors on the motor get deleted....but that's not any work. The misfire sensor and knock sensors never get plugged in.
If your 92 is non vtec, you will have to make a VTEC sub harness and run it into the ECU area, and add pins to the ECU plugs for VTEC. Use an OBD1 sohc vtec ecu. Use your existing EG harness. Use your stock shift linkage, and axles.
Is your SOHC vtec coming from an automatic car? If so, you will need to swap over your stock D15 manifold.
You will have to hardwire 2 wires on the distributor. You know that little two prong sub harness that is on your EG distributor? Well those two wires are integrated into the big plug on the EK. So you can either hardwire them or solder in the plug. Soldering in the plug is the best idea.
If the distributor plug doesnt plug in at all for some reason, get a wiring diagram and match up wires and solder on a plug that will fit.
Make sure you mark the plugs for TPS, IAC, and MAP. and the plugs for VTEC, and CTS cuz they're all the same type of plug. So they will plug into each other and you'll wonder "WTF?". Just to be safe, if you havent done this before, mark all the plugs with masking tape tags.
ON THE D16Y8 (OBD2 MOTOR) IF THE KNOCK SENSOR ISNT BROKEN ALLREADY, SAVE IT...YOU CAN SELL IT FOR SOME SERIOUS $$$$. The knock sensor is right underneath the intake manifold on the back of the motor. You take it out with a 27mm deep socket. Be very careful not to break it....usually people break the plug when they take off the harness, so if this is the case, its no good. But if the plug is intact, you can unscrew it, BE CAREFUL. My friend just had to replace a broken one. A used one cost him $100. List from honda (not to customers, but i know techs and parts guys) is $179. To customers, im sure its in the $200+ range.

Re: 96+ sohc swap into 92-95 (B serious)
Actually, the shell used to have a b16 in it, so it came with b-series mounts. Will they work with the d-series motor? Are they the same?
Also, are you saying I can wire a obd2 distributor to work with the obd1 ECU?
Thanks for all your help.

you need the mounts from a D series. Actually I think you may only need the brackets from D series. Yes you can wire a OBD2 distributor to work on an OBD1 ecu.
