Default 96 Civic transmission fluid and timing belt

I'm going to be changing the transmission fluid in my 96 Civic as it hasn't been done for sometime now. I read that you must use Honda ATF for this transmission. Can I substitute the Honda ATF for a good quality Dexron III? The Honda ATF is more than twice as expensive as a good quality name brand ATF. Also, I'm going to be changing the timing belt, tensioner and water pump since I don't have any records of it being changed recently. I would like to get a kit that includes everything I need. Someone suggested Contitech and they have a kit for around $100. Is it any good?

Just go oem. The dealer will bag everything up for you so you can have a kit.

I used max life valvoline -- for atf fluid.
For the timing belt.... Id get the OEM one. You can find em on ebay with tensioner and water pump, for like 60 bucks last time I looked...

I would say stay with OEM. It may be more expensive, but at least you know it will last.

OEM timing belt and water pump. It can be found on ebay for $149 w/out tensionor.

I bought one it came with all 4 belts, water pump, cam seal, and oil seal. $149 shipped. The tensionor can be found for another 40-50 bucks for OEM as well.
