Turn caps lock the **** off.

Did that? OK, good. Now, get ready to learn how tire sizing works.

Tire sizing comes in the format XXX/YYRZZ. The first number, XXX, is the width of the tire's tread. Example: A 205/50R15 will be wider than a 195/50R15. In practice, there is a little wiggle room here - some tire manufacturers are kind of *********, and fudge these numbers, but most of the time, two tires with a 205 tread will have the same width. The second number, YY, is the height of the sidewall. It is a percentage of the width. Example: A 205/50R15 tire will be taller than a 185/50R15. The third number, ZZ, is simply the size of wheel the tire is made to go on, in inches.

Now, let's talk about what you're trying to do. 185/65R14 is the stock tire size. Your 195/40R16 is already the wrong size - you have a 6% difference in size. Your speedometer is a good 5 MPH off at highway speeds. But let's look at the 205/40R17's. Since you can't find your caps lock key, I'm going to assume you don't actually care about the math, but long story short, they're exactly the same size, height-wise, as stock tires would be. That means your speedometer will be accurate again!

So yes, from a height perspective, they'll work just fine. Unfortunately, we can't actually answer your question, because you haven't bothered telling us the offset. No offset, no answer.

If you don't understand how percentages work, I can't explain it any clearer than I already did. A 205/50R15 will be taller than a 185/50R15.

How when all you changed was the width? The 50 which represents height never changed. Is the second number not height?

And OP you're gonna lose power with 17's it throws off the whole rotational mass. And they look horrible.

Percentage. Percentage. For a fifth time, percentage. 50% of 205mm is more than 50% of 195mm. When going to a wider tire, you also must reduce the sidewall size number to maintain the same rolling radius. The easy way to do this is "add 10, subtract 5". For example, when going from a stock 185/65R14 to a wider tire, you would "add 10" to the width, and "subtract 5" from the height. This would give you a 195/60R14. This generally only works when you're going up or down by 10 - past that, it's not accurate enough, and can throw off your rolling radius. On top of that, some tire sizes just aren't made.

Once you get past all of that fun stuff, there's a whole different thing you have to do when changing the size of the wheel itself. For that, it's easiest to just use an online calculator. This is my personal favorite.

Do you understand it, now? I used to sell tires on commission. My paycheck depended on knowing stuff like this better than the back of my hand.

^he ain't finna read that. This the internet.

Tire sizing. Example size. 205/50/15
-205mm wide.
-50% of 205mm tall (per side wall).
-15" rim.

Compared to 225/50/15

-225mm wide.
-50% of 225mm tall (per sidewall).
-15" rim.

You see now why the 225/50 is taller than the 205/50?

Now I see, can't believe I was misinformed this whole time.

If you take out the time in your day to type a perfectly worded paragraph I don't see why not to read it.

Kudos to you for reading, my main man. Just trying to word it in a more straightforward way in order to convey e-messages. Not trying to take any credit away from NotARacist.
