I have two ek hatches ones a 1998 and the other is a 2000, I notice when I change the fuel pump that the 98 has two plugs and the 00 has three plugs, two plug have the black rubber cover on them n the third is just a grey plug. anyone know what the grey plug is for? and is there any other differences in the two systems?

I can't say for sure, but I think the gray wire is what the government uses to track you with.

How many wires and what color in the connector? Post pics of unplugged connector and its wires.

It's connected to the sending unit used by the fuel gauge and low fuel light.
