96-98 civic: 2nd O2 sensor ques.
i have a 97 dx, people say that in order to use an aftermarket exhaust and header, the 2nd O2 sensor has to be extended and the EX cat has to be used.. could i just get the o2 sensor off an EX? would that be long enough?

It could work,I have a 96 DX sedan with a header, cat and exhaust made for an EX coupe, I just extended the 4 wires on the second o2 sensor. It isn't very difficult.

i have a 97 DX also, and have thought about the possibility of a header also. i've heard you need a header for an EX and an EX cat. i'd like to know also how you extend the o2 wires.

any views on going with a carsound cat or test pipe instead of using a stock EX cat, aside for the environmental and illegal aspects?

If you want off the shelf parts you need an EX header and EX cat.
To extend the wires.... CUT, solder in a longer piece.
You can also just get a custom high flow cat made as well, instead of sourcing an EX cat.
Other then a large loss in low end power, I dont see any reason not to go with a test pipe.
