like the title says my ex's si is always getting super hot for no reason what so ever. Im talking temp gauge gets almost to the H on a daily basis just with regular street driving.

its got an aftermarket half rad, coolant is topped of, res. topped off also. it also seems to be burning a little oil (gray smoke from exhaust).

When it comes to these types of motor problems i am lost, i dont know what seals or rings or gaskets or whatever need to be replaced. i keep hearing about oil rings but im not sure where these things are located and what i should go after first.

any help would be appreciated before she blows this motor.

well its happening for a reason or else it wouldnt happen lol

but i would recommend you burp/bleed the cooling system to get any air bubbles out. If that doesnt work, check the wiring for the coolant temp sensor and make sure its getting the proper reading. Also see if your fan is working

well yea i know its happening for a reason, im looking to see what the reason is! i've had a few hondas and none of them have had this problem thats why im confused.

but yea i'll check the cooling system, any suggestion on the burning oil.

burning oil would be blue smoke, not grey like you said. does your oil level go down the longer you drive?

well no it doesnt, the oil has been pretty consistant. it just has that damn smell when im driving it, or when im driving behind it. you know the busted *** cars that dont pass smog cuz the exhaust is really really messed up? well thats whats goin on with the eg. stinks really bad when i give it gas.

i also get gray smoke coming from the engine compartment sometimes.

what hesitation and what filter do you mean? i never noticed it in the rain, but this has been recently and it hasnt been raining here. just every day driving causes this.

anyways i never understood what "running rich" or "running lean" meant.

i really dont want to sound like an idiot cuz im really not. mechanically i can answer pretty much any question that gets asked, when it comes to SOHC stuff anyways. not really a fan of the DOHC

Running rich, meaning too much fuel, could be the cause of the smoke, if its not losing any oil when you check the level I would guarantee that's it.

Check your basic stuff, make sure the fan is working, no air bubbles in the coolant system, the thermostat and the resistant on the temp gauge sender. If everything there is fine then move on to a compression and leakdown test

how can i control if there is too much fuel? it doesnt have an adjustable fpr. stock pump, stock injectors.

the thermostat sensor is on the timing belt side of the head right? and you said check the resistant on the temp gauge sender, im not sure what that means.

Fpr can get stuck upping the pressure, sticky injector, bad iat, bad cts and incorrect base timing can all cause a rich condition.

Follow the bottom rad hose to the motor, that's where your thermostat is. You need a volt meter to test the resistance on the temp sender if you suspect it to be faulty, get a chiltons manual and it will explain it.

goddamn i might as well replace all sensors while im at it. i also heard that i could have a bad o2, and a bad tps.

any advice on how to check the fp? its got a stock rail so there isnt a place for an fpr.

You don't always get a cel when something is reading incorrectly
