95 DX hesitating and surging in 1st and 2nd gear
95 DX D15B7 Engine, just got the HG, timing belt, water pump, changed. Valves set and spacing set. It idles a little low, stumbles, but doesn't die (even with A/C on), but when I try to take off in 1st gear it hesitates a lot, I have to really give it gas to get it to go, and in second gear it accelerates, then between 23-28 mph (don't know RPM, no tach) I have to REALLY give it gas to get through this dead spot and then above 28 mph it surges and takes off. Once I hit 3rd gears and up it's just fine. Oh yeah, it didn't do this before the recent maintenance.
I was thinking about cleaning the IACV for the idle issue, but I didn't think that it would help with the accelerating issue. Ideas?

Check your timing, my car seems to be doing the same thing, and i've been lead to believe it's a timing problem. Also did you check your distrib? everything clean inside?

Ok, so I took a look under the distributer cover- not dirty at all, but the points show clearly the location where the spark happens, and it gets progressively closer to the edge until the 'bead' that is formed by the spark is almost falling off of one of the contact points (I can't remember which one). I don't have a timing light, so I can't exactly check or adjust my timing the proper way. In fact I didn't check to see if it was occurring on the leading edge or the trailing edge...
Something that I noticed is that it gets worse as the engine gets warmer. Related issues?

I know it's been awhile since the last post, but I figured I'd let you know what was up.
The shop that had changed the timing belt had the timing on the belt side retarded by 8 degrees. The tech that eventually fixed it said that it was a whole 3 teeth off. No wonder I couldn't get the timing right at the distributor...
