Get the tool (multimeter) needed to diagnose electrical problems. It's costs $4 on sale at HFT. Find a sale coupon at their website.

I WILL GET ONE TONIGHT AT WORK. CAN YOU GIVE ME AN IDEA IN ADVANCE WHAT I WILL BE DOING WITH IT?

You'll be checking continuity from vss to ecu, checking proper voltage at the vss plug.

Tension in belt is good.
You sure as hell............do not know what you're doing............To replace an alternator does not require you to take the p/s apart.

It looks like the middle connector (yellow/blue wire) has a lot of blue stuff on it, and it also looks like it got pushed up somehow, like it wasn't seated properly in the plug. I tried reseating it and using more MAP sensor cleaner, and it didn't do anything.

Pls respond.
This is corrosion, you need to clean it off, they sell it at autozone/pepboys/etc..etc.... than get some di electric grease and put a dab in there then try reseating it. Reset codes and test run again.

I have a feeling this corrosion has spread...........

okay ronj@ht, i bought a ten dollar multimeter at work, it looks like it's some high tech **** i got here. Could you tell me what i need to be doing? I think it's time we get this ordeal straightened out. I'm tired of CELs, i'm tired of lumpy idles from a shitty limp *** mode, and i'm tired of idking my speed.d

If you don't know how to use the multimeter, post a clear picture of it.

The VSS connector has 3 wires: Yel/Blu (power), Blk (ground), and Yel/Wht (signal).

Test 1:
  1. Unplug VSS sensor.
  2. Turn key to ON(II) (engine off).
  3. Set multimeter to read DC voltage.
  4. Measure voltage at the Yel/Blu wire in the connector using (1) the transmission or (2) the Blk wire terminal as ground.
  5. Post the 2 voltage readings.

Test 2:
  1. Unplug VSS sensor.
  2. Turn key to off.
  3. Set multimeter to read continuity or Ohms/resistance.
  4. Measure continuity/Ohms of the Blk wire terminal in the connector to the transmission.
  5. Is there continuity?

REsults of test, 4.67 Volts at the connector negative, and 4.67 volts at the battery ground. (which means there's a solid connection on at least the ground in the plug harness0.

Resistance test showed 0.07 and slowly decreasing from the connector negative and a ground

I just read that it's a 5 volt positive at the connector, so i am assuming this is good?

You should read 12V not 5V at the Yel/Blu wire terminal.

What is the voltage at the Yel/Wht wire using the Blk wire terminal as ground?

Whoops, i did the test wrong. I measured 4.67 volts at the yellow blue wire. so thats good, right? I did the outer wires, not the black and middle one. Remember i soldered extension wires that are all the same color, and i didn't bother to look at the old harness because i was recalling from memory. Will do tomorrow. Did test 2 check out okay?

It has just been confirmed. Voltage readout from power wire to ground wire in the VSS plug is 11.80 Volts. Voltage readout from power wire to body ground wire is 11.80 Volts.

To reiterate, signal wire voltage was at 4.67 volts when grounded to the plug ground and chassis ground.

^Indicate wire colors when you describe your test results.

Did you correctly pin the wires to the VSS connector? See diagram I posted where connector is viewed from the terminal side.

I switched the black and power wire 12V and nothing.

All checks out. 4.68 V at the yel/white. 11.90 V at yel/blue, and both get the same results when grounded to the battery. Dash voltmeter reads 11.9 with fuel pump primed and all systems go.

Wires are in correct slots now. Still 0 mph.
