Default 94 si/d16z6 - Will A/C compressor from 97 dx/16y7 fit?

So randomly my ac stopped working found that the condenser fan fuse was blown.
First thing I did was buy a pack of fuses
I unplugged the condenser fan and turned the ac on. Fuse popped
Plugged it back in installed new fuse
Unplugged the compressor and turned the ac on fuse stayed good so now I can narrow it down to the compressor.
Question is I have 94 si d16z6 my buddy gave me a free working compressor form his 97 dx 16y7 will it fit my car?
Thanks in advance

I don't have an answer to your specific question. However, the problem is probably a bad field coil. You can test to verify, but if it's indeed the problem, then replacing just the coil would save you the cost and time of recharging system.

I'll second that.

I'm about 95% sure that the compressor swap would be direct and trouble free, however as mentioned the coil seems like the root cause. you may be able to swap the coil over from your spare compressor. look up the part numbers on one of the OE parts sites. if they match, give it a shot.

The part #'s are different, however, the diagrams look the same. The only part of it that looks different is the plug. A little bit of rewiring, and it should pop right on. That said, same thing with the coil - looks the same, just a different plug. Either way, you're doing a minor bit of rewiring, but one option involves not having to vacuum and refill the compressor fluid and oil, which is pricy if you have it professionally done, and rarely ends well if an amateur does it themselves.
