Default 94 honda civic car bogging down while driving

I have a 94 civic and for the past week I can be driving it and it act fine run good and no problem at all. It will eventually start to get when you are driving it it will bog down to where it will not go above 1500 RPMS will not pick up speed and will sound like it is missfiring and about to die. In the past couple of months I have replaced the water pump and timing belt, changed the plugs, changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and ran treatment through it but cannot get it to act right. Any suggestions?

The check engine light comes on every now and then and has done it sense I have had the car and this just started. I was driving it last night and the light was off and it start acting up. I never really pay attention to a check engine light. How would I be able to tell if it is in limp mode? Any other suggestions?

That's weird... I had this issue myself but I changed my fuel filter and it fixed the problem...

^Makes absolutely no sense.

Do a full ignition system tune up -- plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing -- and then go from there.

if the problem started when you did your timing belt/water pump recheck your timing you might have accidentally moved the cam. when you changed your plugs did you also change rotor, cap, and plug wires?

I can tell now that it has gotten worse I think the belt got some slack in it after I put the new Timing Belt on and I am about 100% certain that it has jumped time. As it got worse and I was changing the little things first I can now tell that it has to be the timing. When I changed the plugs I didn't have the extra money for the cap, rotor button, or wires but after I get the car set to TDC and retimed that is my next step.

Well I put the car back to TDC and I am still having the same issue. It seems to run great until it warms up and then it will start misfiring. The less gas you give it the better it is. After I set it to TDC last night it seems to have no power at all. I know I will prob have to turn the distributor to get it set just right where I set it to TDC but I am wondering if the problem could be in the distributor it self going bad. I am outta ideas. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

First off, stop ignoring the CEL and do a full ignition system tune up.

It is not always on it hasn't came on in about three days and I am having the issue with it on or off. I know it is throwing a code for the O2 sensor but it has a new one in the header just haven't been able to get it erased.

The simplest interpretation is that you did not set the mechanical timing correctly.

Stop ignoring the CEL.

Pull the code EVERYTIME the CEL turns on. Fix the cause of the CEL, and then reset the ECU to see whether the CEL code returns.

Try unplugging the O2 sensor to see if the engine runs better.

You messed with the mechanical timing and the problem worsened, right?

The only thing that got worse was the power and I figured it was from where the distributor needs to be turned to realign it where I set the car to TDC. Other that than the problem stayed the same. I followed all the marks on the crank and the cam for and it actually started easier than it was.

I did not see this post. I will try that tonight and see if there is any change. I think that I am going to change the distributor as well cause I am really beginning to think that is where my problem is.

Update. I unplugged my O2 sensor and advanced my distributor last night and the car is no longer bogging down like it was but you can tell that it has no power where the O2 sensor is unplugged. Could the O2 sensor be causing all the problems that I have been having? You can feel a difference though when you have the gas pressed to a certain spot the car will lunge forward like you let off the gas and then you press it alittle further and it will lunge back like the motor is picking up. Any more suggestions?

Come away from the guess work. Hook up a timing light and do the timing the right way. See FAQs sticky for diagram.

you can tell that it has no power where the O2 sensor is unplugged.
What CEL codes are thrown?

Pull the codes and post all of them. Then reset the ECU, run the engine, and check whether any of the codes repeat.

YES

I use my timing light tonight and I will have to wait till after the holidays to take it somewhere and have the code checked. I know it is going to throw the code for the 02 sensor where it is unplugged but I will see wat else it throws. I am going to order a 02 sensor tonight will prob wait to run the codes till after I get it.

You need to take advice if you want to get help.

There is more to the ignition timing procedure, such as jumping the service connector. Browse the FAQs sticky for a diagram.

What? Do yourself a favor by doing some reading. Just jump the service connector. You can do this at home. Click the Codes link in my signature.

Get used to pulling the CEL codes whenever the CEL turns on. Old information is just that -- old.

Yes. Post the codes, reset the ECU, and check which codes repeat before you buy anything.

What kind of motor do you have...and this might not be the problem but its worth a shot...do you have an intake on it?
