94 gsr hatch stock tach problem
so i just bought a stock cluster with a tach pluged it in and tach didnt work so i found the plug behind the cluser with the blue tach wire so i jumped that wire to the blue wire right by the disturbter it worked but wasent accurate at all kinda went were it wanted when hit the gas does any one know how 2 get this 2 work

idk i follwed the wire threw the firewall and found the plug but were the gsr harness wwas pluged in it was missing the wire so the stock harness had the blue wire right by the plug but the gsr harness plugged in the other side on the plug had no wire coming out of that even though when i jumped it it should of worked right

it got some kinda signal but not accurate at a idle it wont even move but when i rev it up it bounces around tried 2 differnt cluster and they both did the same thing

on the stock harness coming out the firwall it does have a blue wire but were it plugs into the gsr harness their no blue wire their was no wire their at all just got a little cap on it

Cuz if you go from the distributor to the cluster, you bypass the ECU.

didnt work dam i ran out of ideas is their a tach wire that plugs into the ecu?when i wired it like u said it did the same thing as i jumped 2 cluster 2 disturbetr

If you had an oscilloscope, you could check the signal right off the distributor, and see if maybe the ECU is messed up. Although on the G2, the tach reads directly from the distributor, I thought all OBD1 Integras were like that?
One thing to do if you have an extra one laying around is to switch ignitors (ICM) as that is where the tach signal originates.

The erratic behavior makes me think it is the ingiter, but it could also be the ECU, as I guess OBD2 engines send the tach signal to it?

my body donny from all about speed said if i wire the tack wire stright 2 the ignator blue wire i should get a good tach reading if not the ignator is bad what signs will u have 4 a bad ignator

Then recently I REVed the car to redline and the tach went to 0 and hasn't come up since. Car still starts and runs fine.
My question is if you have a bad ignitor will the car still run fine? I'm wondering if the ignitor just controls the tach signal. Although my ecu seems to be getting a tach signal but i could be wrong, i'm just basing this on the car running fine (you know what happens when you assume)

It does send the tach signal, but it also tells the coil to fire. As far as I know, the two parts are separate and either one could go bad.
