94 ex, rpm fluctuating, loss of power, occasionally dies
Title pretty much says it all
just bought a 94 ex(z6 motor) that is having some small issues.
cruising my rpm gauge fluctuates about 2-500 rpm and is mostly steady but after a while driving or several small trips it will start chugging randomly. Accelerating the rpm gauge fluctuates between 500-1200rpms and acts like Im pulling a trailer uphill and smashing/letting off the gas. No power at all.
cap, rotor, plugs, wires are all new. The spring on the coil in the dizzy was a little disfigured when I opened it but I got it mostly back into shape.
it also has died twice now, both times in neutral, and would not start afterwards until I turned the key completely off. Once I did that then tried to start it, it fired right up.
also put some injector cleaner in the tank and changed oil/coolant.
if anyone has some ideas let me know, I appreciate any help!
Also forgot to mention I cleaned all the grounds, and will be checking the main relay as well later.

I would go to the junkyard and get some replacement distributor parts. My guess is a faulty ignitor, or corroded ignitor connections. May as well try out another coil while youre at it.

Ill be ohming out the coil tomorrow once I find my meter, I was thinking either a spark/ignition issue or a fuel delivery issue, gonna see if I can rent a pressure gauge to check that also.

Junkyard trip cancelled. After i completely disassembled the dizzy and put it back together shes running perfect, tach is rock solid, no misses, plenty of power. Guess whoever did the cap and rotor must have messed with other stuff as well for some reason.
