94 del sol s/ls swap/s80 gsr transmission - clunk when turning
Ok ive searched and i cant find anything, maybe im just typing in the wrong things but i come here for possible answers. So the other night i was driving and i came to a light i was going to turn right and when i started off i felt a big clunk from the passenger side like the motor had shifted. i pulled into a parking lot to check it out, i didn't find anything wrong confused i started driving again. so it clunks turning right while i am accelerating (not heavily just normal driving) and when turning left it feels like the steering gets heavier then it feels like it shifts again but then steering gets easier. so me thinking that it was the axle binding i went and replaced the axle. On my test drive it happened again before i even left my driveway. my thoughts is that something is jerking the motor causing the axle to bind or get caught up. someone had suggested a tie rod end or the transmission mount seeing as the driver side mount is a hasport mount they ruled that out.
anyone been through this or have any suggestions on what it could be? any help is appreciated and thank you in advance i hope this can get fixed soon i need this car to be drivable
and in case anyone was wondering its a 1994 del sol s with an ls swap and an s80 gsr transmission.

Was the Del Sol originally an automatic? Is the rear engine mount in good condition? Did you use lower torque mounts?

Try turning your wheel all the way to the right and the left at diff times when the car is parked and look to see if anything is rubbing.

Re: 94 del sol s/ls swap/s80 gsr transmission - clunk when turning
well when i first did my gsr swap in my ej6, it would shudder when i took off in first and second, not exactly the same symptoms, but i decided to go with some innovative mounts and to my surprise, no more shudder, shake, or clunk.
but i do have a nice dash vibration, haha, gotta love aftermarket mounts...
try some new mounts, my rear was pretty shot, so it might work for you. though its odd it only does it when you turn...

Re: 94 del sol s/ls swap/s80 gsr transmission - clunk when turning
well i filled the passenger side motor mount with window weld on Friday night then i installed it this afternoon and problem still happened so i took the rear mount off and filled it today, it is drying now it didnt look bad so i honestly dont think it will fix the problem but i did it anyways. does anyone have any other ideas on what it could be? another suggestion i got was to change the tie rod end. does anyone think that could be it? how would that effect it?

Try the half shaft that was the problem with mine they seem the same size but there is a very small difference try that check out the code thats on it. It should be SR3-J01 for a manual one. The automatic one is SR3-J81 check that out
