94 civic steering wheel shakes at 70-75mph and above
shakes real bad over 75mph, anything 70mph under drives smooth. I have bought new tires for it, had it mount and balanced, had it alignment too as well, new used motor mounts, i even thought it was the rack n pinion so i swap that out too, i had try a different set of tires with rims from my cuzz crx and it still shakes at 75mph and over, on his car it does not shake like mines, tryed many different axles with no luck.......wheel bearings seems to b fine.
what can it be??

i was reading on the web that this can be cause by the tie rods, but i did the checking by jacking the car up and turning the sides at 3 and 9 oclock, there was a little play and kinda a nocking noise but seems like not enough to tell that its the tie rods.

Its definetly the inner tie rod , I had the same problem and I changed the inner tie rod and it was gone. But it use to shake extremly bad at 70 or more! Check the wheel tha has play and change that inner tie rod.

jack the front up put the stands under it pull the tires from left and right with your hands with jerking movement.you can also pull them up downwards position.if not sure take it to midas they do a free inpection.tell them you feel the shaking when over 75 i want no what this is. they will check them, and then they tell exactly what is wrong, they will ask you when you want it done say I will come back im to busy for now. they check it all for you upper and lower ball joints, and inner and outer tie rod ends.thats the safe way if your not sure.but try the shake down.but remember if it is the inner you will need another alignment hopefully they whoever did your alignment gave you a warranty and that wil save you some cash.

coming from a certified michelin tire tech your balance could be off. but if you swapped wheels and it was still their then i would go with steering components.
do you feel it through the wheel or in your *** through the seat?
if its in the wheel then the problem is fronnt end if you feel it in your butt then problem is in the rear. rotate your tires front to back and see if the vibration moves as well.
good luck

I recently adjusted my steering rack, (93 Civic Cx hatch with manual rack) and I can say it seems a little better. This is after I recently replaced both inner tie rods, got new tires, four wheel alignment and installed a new rack end bushing last month. The steering feels a bit stiffer., however the steering wheel still has some shudder in it on the interstate, 65mph + ...but it's gone away at lower street speeds. You can definitely tell when the adjustment screw is bottomed out…it’s nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel. I backed the screw out to spec so it’s as adjusted as much as it’s gonna get. I've also rotated my rear wheels/tires to the front but shake is still there. Next on my list...I'm gonna double check that all the ball joint nuts are tight as can be, (pretty sure they are). I'm also gonna inspect lca bushings. I'm starting to wonder if it could be that my outer tie rods end ball joints could be the culprit.

I'm having same issue as OP. New wheels/tires and ive had it aligned in 2 separate shops.
Ive been told to replace the lower ball joint on the corner that shakes but I think it's more of a tie rod issue.
This weekand i want to put the car on jack stands and do the wiggle test but i might just drive it to Midas and take advantage of their free inspection.
