94 Civic DX - thoughts on DOHC ZC or B18 swap?
Wow first off your faq section is fantastic.
I just bought a rust free 94 DX from a girl who bought the car and couldn't drive stick. I have a 92 SI that I'm parting out for it's brakes, trans, and bits. Engine I have yet to decide. I've already had a turbo, it's fun but that's not what I'm looking for. Flame away but I think I'm gonna do a OBD1 Dohc ZC swap. I just want a daily driver that I can rip around in on the weekends.

Re: New to the board
An hours reading killed that idea. Looks like a cool little motor but for a few hundred more I can get a b18b. Much wiser choice. Feel free to flame.

Re: New to the board
You can do that with any healthy honda engine! But since you already have sc parts lying around i would suggest doing a sc zc swap puts down almost as much power as the dual cam zc and will drop right in. Even a d16z6 cause eventually your gonna want VTEC. lol but at the same time the b18b is also a wise choice it all depends on your budget really. Welcome btw!

Ya I could do the z6 swap everything's there but the motors old and the tranny is notchy, hard to get it into reverse. There's a few places up here selling B18b with trans for 1300 but I'm going to look around. 150 in a car that weighs what… 2200lbs lol plenty fast enough. Plus I'm not sure as of yet what the si brakes can handle in additional hp and torque. I still have plenty of reading to do with the brakes first.

You might want to look into the 3-stage VTEC engine as well:

Great engine.
Good luck,

Yup I was reading up on that as well. Spent maybe a little too much time on D-Series.org lol. I think for what I want the B18b is the right choice for me. Easy to find parts, pretty much a bolt in job, should provide good gas mileage, seems to be a popular choice for turbo upgrades should I feel the itch again, and the cost is about the same really.
Yup man I have read the faqs I was just saying hi and get my five posts started lol I have no questions, the faqs section is the best I've seen on any board. I only joined to use the search to do some research about the ZC, poor choice, and to snoop around.

Go for the b18b..There not very expensive n i like the ls tranny. There not as smooth as the b16's but have better power output..
