93 EG SI Lot's of questions. Need answers!!!
Well, I recently picked up a 93 Civic Hatchback, it's an SI with a 95 B18C1 Swap. I noticed there are a few problems with the car. The engine smokes like crazy when V-tec engages, burns oil. The tranny needs to be replaced, 3rd gear grinds bad, and now 5th on occasion. Needs a new clutch. Oh, and something up front is making alot of noice, grinding from around the wheels. The car runs pretty good, it's fast and handles great, but I want more. I have $3,000 to get this thing running right. Where do I go from here? I notice it has a cheap intake, upgrade to a AEM short ram? Also, I was wondering about upgrading the stock ECU, how do I do it, and where do I go? Should I get front and rear strut bars? It currently has fully adjustable coil overs all the way around and gas shocks up front. Where do I find a ITR LSD tranny for less than $1,500??? I've searched high and low. Any and all info would be a great help.

Okay, well I'd like to fix the smoking problem but I need to know what is causing it first. Piston rings? This is my first honda, I'm just now getting into the scene. I want this car running good. I have $3,000 and that's not much to work with. Also, found a tranny, ITR LSD, $1,300 at passwordjdm.com Can I trust it. Where do I go from here? Does anyone know of a reliable shop in the Portland, OR area????

By the way, I'm perfectly capable of using the search button, but I have limited time. Crazy schedule, and there is sooooo much **** to go through. It's frustrating.

You really need to get that engine squared away and the car secured. If you are not savvy enough to diagnose, pay someone who is.
The ITR tranny is great but it will do you no good if your engine blows up or somebody steals your ride.
Good luck to you.

you could ignore the smoking problem.
A lot of B-series motors smoke when in VTEC, it's not a huge problem. They have oil squirters that spray the back of the piston when in VTEC to keep it cool. Your piston rings may be slightly worn, but it's not worth worrying about in my opinion.
....that is if it's only a little smoke....if it's bad then they need to be replaced.
your tranny could be rebuilt for relatively cheap, especially if you pull it yourself and take it in somewhere. Ask in the regional section of the H-T marketplace to find someone near you who is capable.

well you have to pull of the head and oil pan, and take out the rods. at bare minimum you have to replace the head gasket and the oil pan gasket.
you might think of using ARP rod bolts and ACL rod bearings, that way the bottom end would be safe to rev pretty high.
Also, while the head is off you might as well have it milled to bump up the compression....then later with cams and valvetrain you have a pretty built engine.

check compression and do a leak down test to check the rings for exsesive blowby. if your rings are bad i would probly just put forged rods and pistons in should be somewere under a grand. personaly 9.5.1 for forced induction or maybe just itr pistons for all motor. should be somewere around 11.5.1 or something high like that. if your loooking for a new tranny i would recommend something with lsd but also something that will fit your needs example gas milage topend drag etc. you should firgure out what this car is going to be made for first.

It's going to be a daily driver, but I also want to have the power for the track, and drag ever now and then. I wasplanning on going with the following, if there is anything else I should add, leme know. APR headstuds, APR rod bolts, Block guard, Micropolish crank, Shot peened rods, New rod bearing and main bearing, Arias pistons and piston rings, OEM headgasket, new water and oil pump, front and rear mainseals. I'm running low on $$$ right now, otherwise I'd get the ITR LSD tanny, Fidanzafly wheel, and xedy clutch kit. But I need to get the engine runing right first. Any idea's how much this is going to run me including labor?

Re: (dev)
ARE YOU SERIOUS LABOR ALONE WILL KILL YOU. I THOUGHT YOU WERE DOING THIS YOUR SELF. AT LEAST 1000 IN LABOR DONT DICK WITH STOCK RODS H-BEAMS ARE AS MUCH AS A SHOT PEEN AND ARP ROD BOLTS NEW RODS COME WITH THOSE.

Re: (thehatchninja)
****, $3000 are you serious?
rebuild, turbo, boost.
9:1 pistons $400
H-beams $250
bearings and rings $100
block filler $30
---
turbo $150
injectors $100
ebay FMIC $100
charge pipes $100
manifold $120
wastegate $180
and STILL have money left over
just get a new b16 or GS-R tranny and you'll be good to go. probably will want a new clutch for the added boost as well. funny, I also have a 93 Si with a 95 GSR motor, lol. if I had $3k to put into it, that's definately the route I would go.

Re: (Tatakai)
Yeah man get the thing checked out by someone qualified if you aren't sure. Get leak down and compression #'s for us and we can send you in the right direction. Also I think Ground Zero is in the Portland area and are supposed to be quite good from what I hear. Good luck and keep us posted
