'93 Del Sol transmission mount conundrum... Help, please?
Hi. I've recently bought this '93 Del Sol S, 5 speed, with no swaps or mods. It had a pretty noticeable engine-frequency vibration, so I investigated and found a totally broken trans mount (the big one up top). I bought a new one, aftermarket, and attempted to install it. I did eventually get it to fit, but the trans now sits way too high on that side (I can't even put the bracket for the lower mount back on). The mount is exactly the same as the one I took off, only the old one was busted so it fit okay. I'm assuming both the new one and the old one are wrong, but I'm having trouble finding the correct one. I think I see it in the Honda parts catalog ( Honda Automotive Parts , #6) but the number it gives (50805-SR3-900) is the same as the '93 Civic 4dr. DX mount, which looks exactly like the one I have now. This makes no sense to me. I'm hoping someone has run into this before and can offer some advice. I'd really appreciate it.

d15b7 im assuming?
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...+MOUNT+%281%29
number 6 is the one you need
on the civic side the mount is number 4
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...T+ENGINE+MOUNT
the picture shows that the civic one is shorter in height than the one for the del sol
so if you ordered the one for the civic, it will raise the height of the trans

Re: '93 Del Sol transmission mount conundrum... Help, please?
I'm a newbie; I don't think I can post pictures yet...
Yes, it is a D15B7, but I'm pretty sure I don't have the auto mount; the auto mount looks completely different (it has two mounting holes instead of three). All of the parts stores list this mount--the one I have--for this car. The Honda catalog is the only place I see anything different, but as I said, even it gives the number that crosses over to the aftermarket one I have.
I do agree though; this should be a simple job. I'm not sure why it's turning into a head-scratcher. Thanks for replying, by the way.

Ah, but check this out: Honda Automotive Parts
This view is for the Civic. You'll notice that the mount (5) is different from the 6 in the Del Sol view, but the number it gives (50805-SR3-900) is the same. I can't help but worry that if I order that part number, I'll end up with the same thing I already have. (The one I have looks kinda like the one in the Civic view.)

you ordered it aftermarket so i have to believe that by ordering OEM you would receive the correct mount.
i do see your point though.
longer bolts and a spacer could rig it. but who likes rigging

Yeah, I'm afraid that Honda has simply figured the two mounts were similar enough that they could just offer one, seeing how these cars are a couple decades old now. I remember when I worked at a Honda dealer a few years ago, we would replace seat belts in lots of ancient Accords and Civics under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but they only came in black. Beige interior, gray, red--it didn't matter; they all got black seat belts. I'm wondering if this half-fit mount is the best I can get through Honda now.

This is what I'm working with:
Duralast/Transmission Mount 8329 at AutoZone.com
The new one is the same as the old, but that Honda #6 is different (notice the lack of ears and holes in the top).

i doubt it. i would guess that the aftermarket companies have mixed them up.
i get mixed up parts all the time in the appliance industry. look almost the same, but not quite.

i think the holes were for the damper that some had and some didnt.
the picture at auto zone looks correct. i think i would take the one you have now, to a different place and compare.
was the car ever wrecked that you know of? are the other mounts in ok shape?

The two mounts in your pictures look fairly similar. Keep in mind that mine is way too short (at least 1 1/2 inches, maybe 2), so I'd expect to see a pretty noticeable difference in the height of the mount. But I could be wrong, of course.

I do see the difference in the "step" of the two mounts; maybe it's enough to make a difference.

i found those pictures by typing in the two different part numbers on google images and noticed the small difference. which by looking at the parts catalog, the difference is small.
i would love to see pictures of the one you have. but the picture you posted from autozone looks to be the correct mount
search the catalog by your vin number and make sure that nothing has been changed. something fishy is going on

I left the old mount at the shop (it's just as wrong as the new one), but Monday I'll snap a shot of it and figure out how to post the picture, or send it to you somehow.

Sorry, I just caught the last line of one of these posts. The car has had some light body work in the front, but the structural stuff looks straight and untouched. And the other mounts look fine.

Yeah, it's getting late. Thanks for all your help; I really appreciate your taking the time to investigate this stuff. We'll figure it out eventually.

if your mount looks like the autozone one, then it is correct.
i would have to assume that the frame is tweaked.
i do some work with a guy who owns a body shop. while i am by no means a body man i do know that it doesnt take much of a shot to tweak simple stupid things.

Re: '93 Del Sol transmission mount conundrum... Help, please?
Okay, after this I'll call it a night...
I'd be willing to believe the tweaked frame thing, but this mount bolts to the top of the frame rail, and the lower mount bolts to the bottom of it. There's really no room for distortion in those few inches of boxed frame rail, and yet I'm off a couple of inches between the two mounts. The lower mount, when bolted up, seems to hang the engine level, so I'm pretty sure the issue is with the top one. If all of that makes any sense.

once you get back to the car take a picture of the upper mount and lower trans torque mount. also go ahead and take a picture of the drivers side.
lets make sure all of them are correct and go from there.
because im not sure at this point. ill clean up some of my posts here that after reading dont make much sense.

I am thinking with Tony ^^^^^
The bracket that is welded to the passenger side frame rail is different for Auto and Manual applications. It sure sounds like you have the AUTO bracket welded to your frame rail... which can be identified by it's shape. If the top edge of the bracket is essentially horizontal and about the same height as the frame rail, and the hole that the mount bolt passes through is just below this level, then it is a MANUAL bracket. However, it the bracket angles up and the mount bolt hole is above the level of the frame rail, then it is an AUTO bracket. So simply put, bracket ears flat = manual: bracket ears angled up = auto.
If you have the auto bracket, the question is why ??? The answer (fix) will be predicated on your financial commitment. I would say the easiest fix (and likely the least expensive unless you are a welder and a painter), is to buy an auto-to-manual conversion mount from the aftermarket (like HASport). You will find them listed for the "B" series engine swaps, but the mounting is the same for a "D" series '92-95 manual trans.
