Default 93 del Sol - 205/40/16 or 205/45/16???

what size tire should i run on my 93 del sol? 205/40/16 or 205/45/16? i know that the 40 series tire is the exact same diameter as the original tires. i was told that if i change the size of the tire and go any bigger that it would restrict the handling and the overall performance of the car. does anyone have any knowledgeable input?

WRONG. 205/45/16 is the same diameter as stock and will make your speedo read correctly. performance doesnt have much to do with this here.

you are incorrect. the original tire size is 185/60/14. since im increasing the rim size by 2" so you need to add 20 to the first number of 185 to get 205. then you need to subtract 20 from the second number which leaves you with 40. so the tire size that is the exact same as the original is 205/40/16. do you know for a fact that this wont effect performance? what can you tell me to back up your claim that it wont effect performance?

I can tell you first hand a 205/40R16 is typically much smaller than a stock 14" tire... I don't care what the calculators say, I'll hold up my two tires at home, my Kumho ASXs are way smaller. They grip great and you get a torque to the road/acceleration advantage, but my speedo was about 8% too fast. 205/45R16 I'd imagine being much closer.

i run a 205/45/r16 because it is as close to stock as your gonna get w/o throwing your speedo off too much. i would've gotten 40's but didnt want too much of that low pro look... i like more meat. i run nittos

my 45 nittos on my eg compared to some 40's
