Default 93 Civic HB...rust question?

I have a 93 Civic HB Dx w/ 170k orig miles =/ Still have the stock engine ...a uhh...D15b? /shrug...one previous owner that babied the car...oh btw 90% of the miles are highway...so np np...but to get to my question...I have noticed that most older civics that have been subjected to the harsh conditions of winter and the 100 tons of salt they dump on the NY roads, tends to cause some rust...heh...my driver side rear quarter panel is beginning to rust above the wheel well, right around where the rear bumper connects...now there is also some rust on the passenger side (same place as driver side) but not as bad...i dont want to fill it with bondo cause of the extremity of the rust...but dont want to spend alot of $$ on new quarter panels....any suggestions on what could be done to help delay the rust or best way to completely get rid of it....BTW I have a buddy in college who majors in auto mech and body work...according to him, he could just cut new metal, weld it in, buff, and repaint the whole car at a low low price....$500-800 (including new paint job) any opinions or ideas would be greatly appreciated :D Thanks !!

i have the infamous honda rust also, bondo and fiberglass will only last a while so you'd be better off saving your money and getting your friend to do it right.
500- 800 is real cheap mine is costing me 1200 and im not getting a repaint

Well if you're looking for replacement quarter panels, and dont want to pay OEM prices try this place : http://www.rustrepair.com/ and search for Rust Repair Panels. I know the website looks outdate, but I ordered a panel from them last week for $32.00 shipped and they're ligit. Good luck.

Exploder101, did you order one of the wheel arch panels? Or a whole panel?
I'm just wondering, cause I'ld like to know how much that wheel arch deal replaces, since it's not pictured for the hatches.

I ordered the "LH REAR WHEEL ARCH". Here is what it looks like

My friend had to cut around the fuel door area to make room, but other than that it was a perfect fit.

Search by Part Number and type in "'212-92-51-L" That should take you to a 92-95 Hatch, LEFT hand side wheel arch (If you need the RIGHT Side replace the "L" with "R").
And this is what I paid :
Total Merchandise 24.30
Total Shipping/Tax 11.72
Total amount Invoiced 36.02 Hope that helps.

Yeah that helps a **** load :D Was not able to get into the 92-95 Civic page but your link worked :D thank you

EDIT: Wait...cant find the search part...got a link of that? checked the 92-95 civic page but not seeing the part number you provided....

EDIT 2: Btw looking at that picture you provided it would take care of ALL the rust that is on my car...excluding a couple tiny spots....damn these edits to hell

Part number search should be on the upper left hand corner.

I'm from buffalo ny, i had rust on the rear quarters of my crx.....Yea i kno ny sux with all the salt. If you dont have alot of money to invest into body work i suggest just bondo'n it up if your car is strictly for summer, seeing the rarely nice weather that we have in ny. I did my rear quarters last summer and car is stored in winter an looks fine.. spent a whole $25 bux at autozone and did **** myself, its not perfect but it turned out real good, a heck lot better than it looked b4. just a suggestion tho.

Bondo it up, spray with primer? =p Its crossed my mind a few times to do that but...eh just not sure if it would work....if i knew how to post pics on here id show ya'll the rust....alhtough i know the infamous honda rust typically appears in the same place....and yes with all the damn salt they put on the NY roads its rediculous...even tho i drive my car strictly in the non-snow months...thats like.....5 tops hahah =/ ya know what im talkin about 2ndgenrex. But anywho, im leavin for bootcamp may30th and should be comin out with a little over $10,000 to do what i please....i think $3000 or so will go to new engine, and yea....i want this **** fixed for good....i look at my car and see the full potential but damn....that rust sure does catch my eye >< I may try your suggestion rex for the time being but im thinkin about just buyin these quarter panels and mig weldin em in. Thanks for keepin up on the replies guys :D Every bit helps

ftp://www.rustrepair.com:24/civic.pdf Should take you to their whole Honda Catalog. The part number for a sedan wheel arch is 212-92-54.

If that link doesn't work go here http://www.rustrepair.com/rustpdf.html and click on 88-03 Civic.

And here's another pic of what it originally looked like:

Hope that helps

hell yea, paint chips and all? =p Umm...my buddy in college who is going to repaint my car did his and it turned out great, couple small faults but overall looked awesome...a Samba Green CRX...but considering the amount of money i'll save by taking it to him rather than having an auto body shop fix the rust and repaint the car....its well worth it :D BTW Im glad im not the only one who is using this topic...figured with all of us honda fanatics out there i wouldnt be the only one with some rust on his car
