92 hatchback dx perf mods
What kind of mods will make the most improvement in perormance to a 92 dx and how far with performance can that engine go? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to hondas.

Re: 92 hatchback dx perf mods (scrapin777)
you can do alot with your motor and drivetrain with stock honda parts.
I have a 92 dx w/d15b7 engine. Heres a list of my mods
88-91 crx si camshaft ($50)
94 si intake manifold ($50)
94 si tranny ($100)
d16y8 head gasket ($35)
Modified distributor- Slotted the one end out of the adjustment slot for more ignition advance, but I can only run 93 octane or it pings (FREE)
AEM cam gear-- a must for the cam swap since the si cam is a 1/2 tooth off from the stock dx cam. You can run it a 1/2 tooth retarded and get a great bottom end power but the top end is soggy. 1/2 tooth advance and you have a soggy bottom end and a great top end. A cam gear will even this out
aem intake
dc sports header
custom exhaust N1 style muffler
Lots more power than the stock dx I ran a 15.7 in Indy a couple of weeks ago and that was with a blown headgasket. I installed my y8 headgasket last weekend and there is a little difference. (y8 headgasket is thinner hence more compression)
Heres a pic of my beater

Re: 92 hatchback dx perf mods (scrapin777)
mistabone hit 14.85 NA and 13.09 juiced with the single cam.
considering that you may be on a budget:
i highly recommend the 90-91 Honda CRX Si camshaft and skunk2 adjustable cam gear for major performance gains NA. screw the i/h/e til later on down the road when you get desperate for more power.
if you want juice, I would start with a 50 shot from ZEX.com

Mistabone hit those numbers spraying a d16z6 sohc vtec engine, not the d15b7.
The rods on the d15b7 are tiny and probably couldnt handle nos. NOS is not the way to go on your dx. But I will agree with the guy about the cam though

I hit the 14.85 WITHOUT spray on the Z6.
I hit 15.08 with the 1.5L with just bolt-ons, about about 3 years ago, 11/7/99 to be exact.
See list above as he followed my setup.

The Si cam and intake, that you bought, did you pick up these parts used, and where would be a good place to pick up these parts?

MOTOR SWAP b18c those always seem to work
Way to Go!
Of course the DOHC motor will be faster in the end, but he's not talking about swapping motors from the looks of his posts.
Can we stick to the subject please?

Re: 92 hatchback dx perf mods (B18C5-EH2)
i have a 93 dx hatch and i hit a 16 flat at the track with just an exhaust and a cold air intake. i also have bigger piping.
so here's what i need also:
90-91 crx si camshaft or cam
cam gears
what else can i get thats cheap?
i'm doing this just for the mean time. i have to wait until income tax next to get a swap, but i would like to get a little faster in the mean time. anymore suggestions?

The OEM 88-91 si cam, An aftermarket cam may be too aggressive and you would probably have to get upgraded valve springs and retainers because of the higher lift

y8 intake manifold
si cam

Re: 92 hatchback dx perf mods (93hb)
Be careful where you get your cam, I got a brand new honda cam off a guy on ebay who was selling a complete head for 100 bucks and I emailed him and asked if he would just sell the cam and he said sure. I paid 50 bucks for a brand spankin new honda cam. Junk yards dont necessarily have the best equipment, hence the name JUNK YARD. Just go to your local honda dealer and price one out. By the way Im not knockin junk jards, it just that you never know what you are gonna get.

Re: 92 hatchback dx perf mods (hondafrk)
why does the 88 si cam not need an adjustable gear, but the other years do? Also, this is probably a really stupid question but could someone show me where on this picture the camshaft is? It's from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and it's supposed to be a picture of a camshaf/timing belt from a 91 CRX si. I see nothing on that picture that looks like any camshaft I've ever seen. Also, when people say to use a camshaft from a 90-91 si do they mean a civic si or a crx si? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to figure out what to do with my car before I can afford an engine swap.
<edit> Sorry, just realized I forgot to attach the picture. </edit>
