92 Civic CX won't start !!!
hey guys,
im new to Honda-tech and enjoy Hondas so I figured i'd finally join the community. Anyway my problem is the other day I was driving on the expressway and my hatch died on me. it's a 92 cx 5 speed trans and it doesn't want to start anymore. I had to get it towed home and I don't know what the problem could be. I changed the spark plugs and wires and receive some spark, the engine turns over but doesn't want to start. you can also hear the fuel pump when the car is turned on. is there anything that im overlooking ? please help I plan to build this car and want everything done right. thanks !

Re: car won't start !!!
update: turns out my motor might be locked up...I did a compression test and im only receiving 30 psi from ports 2 and 4 im guessing that my engine is locked

Re: car won't start !!!
A locked up/seized engine would not turn.
What psi did you read on the other two cylinders?
Before the compression test, did you verify that the mechanical timing was correct?

No i didnt not check the timing of the belts and cylinders one and three read zero but ill do it again today and do you have the first three steps to that photo

Re: car won't start !!!
What engine do you have?
To check the mechanical timing, do steps 5 and 7 (skip 6). HOWEVER, in step 5, turn the crank pulley only COUNTER-CLOCKWISE not clockwise. That's an error in the service manual diagram.

Put transmission in neutral. Remove valve cover and upper timing belt cover.
Use a breaker bar and 17-mm socket to turn the crank pulley several full revolutions COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. See bottom illustration on left side of diagram.
Now continue turning COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until your D15b7 cam pulley is positioned exactly as shown in the top right illustration in the diagram.
Now look down from the cam pulley to see whether the pointer aligns perfectly with the white mark on the crank pulley. The two-part pointer is aimed like a gun site. See top illustration on left side of diagram.

Re: 92 Civic CX won't start !!!
im leaning towards the distributor because im not receiving a spark anymore and as for the camshaft it's mainly dry and the front lobe of the shaft turns but not the backside

Re: 92 Civic CX won't start !!!
you will need to replace the entire head. oil starvation to the oil passages caused the cam to heat and snap therefore damaging valves and cam caps. bet the one thats dry, you wont be able to get the cam cap off

Re: 92 Civic CX won't start !!!
and IF the cam is broken would that explain why the distributor rotor wont turn at all when I try to turn it by hand it feels like its stuck and not cause any spark
