92 civic cx - suspension problem after cutting 2 inches from springs
If you know my question has been answered please direct me to the e proper thread.
I didn't know how to search this in a couple words.
This morning I drove to work and my car felt fine, I got off work and drove down the road
To the parts store and my car was pulling hard to the left. I get out and check my tire to see if its flat and its fine. I checked my ball joints and they are okay. But my whole drivers side front spring just compressed I guess. It won't hold up the weight. I took it home and jacked it up and I noticed a lot of interior tire wear...to the wires. I recently cut the springs about 2 inches. I plan on getting full coilovers but I cut them for fun. Could this cause just one wheel to give out? It was almost in strut. Rubbing on the well.
Thanks a lot foe reading my whole paragraph but I'm stumped and need to get back on the road

Re: 92 civic cx suspension problem.
I have never even heard of a spring collapsing..ever. and thanks for the confidence booster on building my car. I don't have 600 dollars for suspension. I don't even have wheels yet. But oh well don't dwell on me cutting my springs please. If for certain. Spring collapsed which I don't understand is possible could someone explain? No disrespect towards anyone I know cutting springs is bad.

I thought that the spring is what holds the car. And the strut just dampens movement. I'm still confused

if your trying to lower ur car on a really tight budget just get some coil over sleeves and new struts and you should be fine with that

Re: 92 civic cx - suspension problem after cutting 2 inches from springs
You're partially correct. A functioning strut does dampen movement. However, a blown strut that is not full of fluid will allow the car to sink lower over time. The longer you drive on it the more fluid will leak from the strut allowing the car to sink lower and lower until the strut doesn't function at all. The two components, spring and damper, work together to determine the car's ride height. That's why people who slam their cars have extended top hats. Dampers can only compress so far. It's all dictated by internal pressure. Cut springs create excessive pressure in your dampers during normal driving conditions and a bump in the road will cause the pressure in the damper to spike and blow the seals.

You need to post some pics but it sounds like your setup is toast. You should not drive on this.

Sounds like sombody's buying coilovers with there tax return but really if ya wanna lower a car an still be able to drive it, they're about the only way. The sleeves are junk too. My car had cut springs when I bought it, I've been there man.
