92-95 Door Switch, Replace/Repair?
Hi all,
looking for some suggestions on the door switch for 92-95s. Is it worth it to get a brand new one for ~$18 or is it easily/reliably repaired?
If you are not sure what I am talking about, it is Honda part number 35400-SL4-013 and it turns on your dome light when the door is open (and headlight chime if so).

Re: 92-95 Door Switch, Replace/Repair?
Good question.. On the very cold days (aka yesterday was one of them: 3 degrees F) opening the passenger door turns on the dome light, but opening the driver side door does not turn on the dome light. Today, it was a little bit less cold (20 degrees F) and the drivers side door did turn on the dome light.

is it sticking, you might try spraying with some electrical cleaner
next time it doesn't work try pushing on it and see what happens

In my case I just swapped it out with a salvage yard one. Cleaning it did no good.

Re: 92-95 Door Switch, Replace/Repair?
I too have had this problem. It's an issue since things like the alarm and door-open indicators rely on this switch to function. I've found in the cold that it's not so much the switch that's the problem, it's the rubber cover that becomes stiff and doesn't expand to allow the switch to come on. I researched and found that putting rubber bits in with some silicone(?) spray in a sealed bag for a few days allows them to loosen up. I did this and got precisely nowhere.
Instead, what I wound up doing was using a different type of rubber cover for those switches. There are two styles (at least) that Honda made, one that looks "square" and one that has a "nipple". I've found the preferred style is the "nipple" style and sourced these from Acura Integras. Once installed, as well as lubing up the switch underneath, I've not had a problem again. I live somewhere that hits -40C/-40F, and the dome light still comes on at these temps, so for me it's problem solved.

I have seen and have subscribed to a great many of your threads so trust me I know a Honda god when I see one. One heck of humble guy too

A 5th gen Honda God, much like I'm sure there is a 4th gen and a 6th gen Honda God but I am not sure who they are at this time. :p

Re: 92-95 Door Switch, Replace/Repair?
I would hazard a guess of 94-01 as that is the generation Integra that has most of the interchangeable parts with the 5th gen.
I'll let Eric correct me if I'm mistaken.
