91 Civic warped rotors
My Friend's Mom has a 91 Civic with 2003 Si Wheels....
She took it to a shop and they said the wheels are causing her rotors to warp because of the weight/size
Her options would be:
1 find a cheap set of stock wheels and install new rotors
2 keep the Si wheels and upgrade the brakes with better rotors...
What do you recommend?
Edit sorry wrong forum....requested to be moved
TIA

I thought the new Si wheels were 5 lug?

I don't see how that's possible, especially with an OEM wheel.

If you're using the OEM rotors, or had the brakes done at Midas or something, the rotors are probably just crap; especially if they've been turned. My OEM's went at 20K, and my girls at about 30K. Get some Brembo blanks, AXXIS pads, and call it a day. I got mine here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=831188.

1. tell her to go to a different shop from now on, those guys are morons.
2. the wheel's not hurting nothing.
3. get new rotors
Possible causes for warping:
hard brake use.
ineffective rear brakes.

Do you know for sure the rotors are warped or are you taking the shop's word for it. They may just want you to buy stuff from them.
In any case.. if they're warped, just buy new rotors and make sure to break them in properly. She can keep the Si wheels.

Re: (JDM Ninja)
Thanks for all the response
I am taking the shops word for it....although he says his mom does feel vibration at high speed braking....
Im going to recommend keeping the wheels and doing a rotor change for her....
any complaints on the brembo blanks as mentioned earlier?

blanks are blanks,
there are quite a few people that will vouch for any brand blanks, be it autozone, kragen or whatever, same ****.
Not everyones going to vouch for such things though.
BUT brembo is known far and wide for making high quality brakes, and brembo blanks are a popular choice.
About warping, if your lugnuts arent torqued down equally and properly, you can/will warp your rotors.
Also you should be concerned with your driving techniques. Like if you brake really hard, heating up those rotors, dont come to a stop then just sit there holding the brakes...
your rotors are hot. hot and SOFT. while your sitting there squeezing one portion of them.
that portion will get warped which will mean rumbly brakes!

Yeah I will talk with her about her techniques and breaking in the new rotors
