6 speed gearbox for B18CR
Hey Folks,
I'm the owner of a 1996 Honda Civic EJ Coupe into which I recently did an engine swap from the paltry D16Y7 with auto tranny to full JDM ITR B18CR with S80 LSD Gearbox.
Car is very fast and satisfies me where speed is concerned. However, with the very close gearing of the ITR box my fuel efficiency over long commutes is inadequate. I find that to cruise at 120km/h in my 5th gear, the car is doing 4000rpm, which is too high for gas efficiency.
I have heard or seen whispered around the net about a rumoured and very rare 6spd box for the B series engines. I have also heard about somehow mating the K20 box to a B series engine. Has anyone heard of these and can anyone provide any info. I would appreciate it very much. This would make a very interesting project indeed.
Thanks,
Z

Have you considered a lower priced alternative of largerdia. wheels and higher profile tires.
I did, replaced the 14" 60x185 series with 15" 65x205 series and knocked 750rpm off the cruising speed and now run at 2900 rpm at 70mph and my del sol (d16z6) gets me 44mpg with the a/c on.
Yes I lost some aceleration and pickup, but this is a daily driver commuting car for highway use.
Fixing the speedo was easy with a gps and moved the pointer over 11mph.
Yes a 6 speed would be nice with a tall final drive, but you're talking big bucks for that swap.

idk about a 6th gear but definatly cheaper alternatives like selling your tranny and grabbing a gsr which is longer gears and having money left over or just taking out your final drive gear and putting in a lower one. an ls tranny has the longest gears and is the cheapest if your really concerned about the rpm's. i have a b16 tranny which is like the type r and i took my final drive out and put in a jdm type r 4.7 which is really short. im basically on vtec cruising in 5th at about 65.

I upgraded from 14" wheels to a 15" wheel with a tire size of 205/50. I have no wish to go with a larger wheel both for comfort and practicality.
I love the gearing of the current ITR box, and would like to maintain the 'racelike' capabilities of the box, but would love to be able to cruise at lower rpm at higher speeds on the highway especially.
Hence why I thought of a 6spd box. I am into uniqueness in a way. I'm from Barbados, and currently, I'm the only coupe on the island with a ITR swap in. And I am always looking for ways of being unique.
So any info on a 6spd hybrid for B series engines would be great. Thanks for your replies and comments tho.

I'm currently having an LS case rebuilt, using GSR 1-4, LS 5th, 4.4 FD, and an ITR LSD. The end result is the short gears of a GSR, with the long 5th of an LS for the highway. It would be a much cheaper alternative to what you are proposing, and you've leave your 1-4 and FD untouched.
