Default 5spd tranny problem

Recently had auto > 5spd swap done, also had the tranny rebuilt before installing it. I have been driving on it for about 3 weeks. just today after making a pretty fast run on an open stretch of road and started slowing down for the red light. I put it in N.... and released the clutch, But for some reason the tranny was still engaged in a gear... even when the shifter could be moved side to side. so obviously the car stalled. I dont have one of those nuetral safety switches? (i dont need to press the clutch to start the car). i tried changing gears 1-2-3-4-5... and seemed ok.. so i tried starting it up again... but stalled becase the tranny was still stuck in a gear.... after everyone honking at me to move... i try putting the shifter into Reverse.. then back into nuetral and it finally clicked out gear and started up and drove off.... whats going on???

edit: 94 civic, 92-95 ex/si 5spd just rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago, clutch masters stage 3 clutch. brand new slave and master cylinders, fluid lvl good. resurfaced stock flywheel, new throwout, pilot bearings, ss clutch fluid line.

for lazy's:
made a fast run on road
coming to a stop put car into nuetral
tranny was engaged in a gear (even though the shifter was in Nuetral position)
stalled
lots of honking
shifted gears 1-2-3-4-5 and try starting.... stalled again
put shifter into reverse and then nuetral and it started ok

bent linkage?
that clutch is a sprung hub, right? if so, you may have broken one of the retaining clips off of one of the springs... it happened to me before. GL

sounds like a problem with the linkage to me as well.

I was goin to say maybe it popped loose, but then i read the rest of your post.

If you got the linkage from a front end damaged car, it's most likely bent a little bit thus causing your problem.

Stock 92-95 Shift linkage is cheap, cheap enough where that's should be your first attempt to solve the problem. Next I'd say crack into the tranny, maybe it was assembled wrong, but it really sounds like the linkage. It can't really be the clutch because if you shut the car off, then you should have been able to put it in any gear you wanted.

probably not, because it doesn't have to be out of shape much to **** it up. If you still have the d series just get another linklage setm should cost more than 20-30 bucks.

Sounds like the linkage to me as well. If you figure that's your problem let me know I have d-series linkage I can hook you up with.
