Default 50 shot spray on D16z6... Pros and cons???

Hey guys, I have been debating whether to put a 50 shot of nitrous on my d16z6...
the engine is stock except for a Password Powerchamber intake. I will put a header and full exhaust on as well. Who has had experience with a setup like this and were you happy with the outcome? Were there any ill-affects on your engine?
Also, what brand do you recomend? Thanks for your suggestions.

50 shot is fine for the stock d16z6. If I remember it right, my friend pushed 75 on my stock d16z6 when I let him borrow the motor, and it still ran strong.

that reminds me, I also meant to ask how much nitrous costs?
and how fast does the occasional spray use a bottle up? you know, like
wasting a guy at a red light occasionally or a few runs at the track...

P.S. I get pissed when guys ride through parking lots purging their nitrous or just purge at redlights to look cool dont you? "oooo they must have NAWS"

well you will definitely be good w/ a 50shot but don't do like most and get Laughing gas happy and spray it every chance you get and end up burning out your rings.....

I think that most shops charge like 4.50 a lb for NOS refills...might be higheer or lower depending on the shop.
Best of luck...

timmay its up to 4.50 a lb here...50 shot is good, allways run 2 step colder plugs and retard the timing a degree or two...just to be on the safe side. with a window switch i would run a 75 shot no problem.
a full bottle usually lasts about 7-10 1/4mile passes.
A bottle heater is your best freind if you intend on being consistant.

i used to have a Zex nitrous kit and was running a 55 shot. bottle fills were like $20 if i remember right. good cheap power.

Definately good cheap power. With a 50 shot, I wouldn't worry about retarding timing at all and the 1 step colder plugs really aren't required either. 50 shots are setup on jetting for user error and are very rich so no worries.

Here in NC, I pay 2.50 a lbs for nitrous and get about 10 passes out of a 75 shot on a B16. A automatic heater is definately a must because you will vary on your pressure without one so much you will never get the full effect of the spray. Have fun and good luck.

I sprayed a 50 shot (sometimes 75 if I got bored) on my z6 for like two years, it never cared.

NX kit.

Nitrous is $3.49/lb here now.. back then it was $2.49.

We live inflationary times!

----

I wouldn't want to total up all my refill recipts... I would've exceeded a turbokit/jrsc by quite a bit, especially if you included the price of the kit in the costs.

definatly good advice. I burnt a hole the size of a quarter right through the middle of one of my pistons because i lost focus for half a second and hit the redline.

Very good advice, I didn't even think about including the window switch in my post.

Yah, no kidding, i was so used to "power shifting" i dunno the technical term, but not really letting off the gas when shifting, and ended up slowly frying my rings, and burning up a piston. That's when I stopped using nitrous, my bad on that one.

But as long as your safe with it, then it is definetely the cheapest way to make more power, and it makes quite a noticeable difference.

a friend of mine said he would tune my car when after I hook the juice up,
isnt there a way you can prevent the kind of damage mentioned above if
your car's computer is tuned right? or is that just to make it more efficient?

You need a window switch to be safe. If you hit the nitrous and use it all the way to redline, your ecu will cut the fuel and you'll get a pure spray of nitrous into your cylinders. These creates massive temperatures in your cylinders and causes all sorts of dammage. The window switch prevents this from happening. Running nitrous without one is VERY stressfull. I don't recomend it.

Good luck and spray the hell out of that Z6!!!!

easy for you to say, and when I fry my engine are you gonna five me a new one?lol, just kiddin'. So how much does a window switch cost, I'm hoping to find a kit for around $300 and I needed to know how much more it would cost.

I want to get the z6 to about 200hp with the intake, header, 2.5 fullexhaust, chip, and 50 or 55 shot, does this sound do-able?

you should be able to hit 200hp with all those mods you listed. A brand new MSD rpm activated window switch sells for around $80. Their are cheaper ones out there and i'm sure you could find a deal on ebay or something. Oh, and btw...when i said "spray the hell out of that Z6" I just meant have fun Don't get too spray happy on us...lol

50 shot is small, 75 shots about the same as running 6psi turbo setup. No biggy. D-Series is a tuff motor, we ran one with 28psi (old t3/t4) and it took 5 good runs before we through a rod...
