3k miles or 3 months?
I'm driving a '99 civic SI with about 85k miles on the motor, stock. I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil in it and it seems like I am hitting 3k miles in about 1 month. Should i be doing an oil change at the 3k mile mark or should I be doing it later? I know for a healthy engine, changing it at 3k won't hurt but it's time consuming and takes some cash.

If you want to change your oil less, get amzoil in whatever weight you prefer and a K&N Gold filter. For myself i use amzoil 20/50 but if thats your daily beater just get regualar... seriously I change my oil like every 7 maybe 8 thousand miles.

If you're running Mobil 1 fully synthetic on a stock engine, changing oil every 3000 miles is a total waste of money and oil. You should be running 7500 mile change intervals at minimum. Just make sure to use a good filter (I personally use Honda part #15400-PCX-0400, which is a Toyo Roki filter).

yeah i do too, and if you're like me and wind the dog nuts out of it everyday, you probably should too. But yeah if you don't drive like an ******* then you probably don't need to change so frequently.

mobile 1 extended performance... read the back of the bottle... in sever driving conditions its still recommended to change with in 3 months or 3000 miles. :-) 15k is just for , normal driving conditions. *shrugs* just my 2cents.
i recommend doing which ever comes first

They just do that to cover their asses. If you really want to know when you should be changing your oil, have an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs. It's $20, but you'll quickly recoup that once it helps you realize that your 3000 mile change intervals on synthetic oil should be at least twice as long.

EkSi knows what he is talking about
You have to take care of your Em1, Just do it every 3K no matter if its 1 month or 2.

Its better for your engine then running regular 10w or 5w. We believe it does our engine better and from my point of view it does. 3K miles is different for every person for me 3K lasts really close to 2.5 months. Lubrictaing your engine more efficently isn't wasting money

That's pretty funny, considering my current engine has over 254,000 miles on it and I do multiple HPDEs per year - all on conventional oil.
When I sold my EM1 with 77,000 miles, it didn't burn a drop of oil over the entire change interval, and the internals of the cylinder head were so clean you could eat off of them.
If you insist on changing your oil every 3000 miles, at least save yourself a shitload of money and use conventional oil instead of synthetic.

You really should haved searched this. There have been 1 billion threads created about motor oil.

No, he doesn't.
Read and learn.

EDIT: Why can't there be a sticky on motor oil? That question is asked more than anything else. The big red search button obviously hasn't helped.
