2000 si, weird noise at high RPM
Hello all, I have a question about my 2000 si. when i run it hard, up above 7K, i hear a kind of swishing or hissing sound. it comes from the engine compartment, sounds like it's coming from the passenger foot well. I also smell burning oil after a hard run. My question is, what could be causing this noise, it seems like maybe a PCV valve or something? The back of my motor is always covered with oil when i go to change the oil, and I have to add about 1 QT per 3K miles to keep it topped off. I don't think i'm burning that much oil, I think it's coming out of the engine somehow, but I don't know where or how. There's a black box thing under the intake manifold, attached to the back of the motor between the firewall and block, seems very oil covered, what is that thing?

do u have a intake on the car? possibly a vaccum leak?the oil leak might be your valve cover gasket if its not on right.....also the box under your intake manifold is your pcv box check to see the hoses runing to it are clamped down good

...i was half expecting a never owned honda kid to say something about vtec.
the oil burn is probably from vtec. you should CHANGE oil every 3k miles not just 1qt top off.
sounds like you have a leaks somewhere. it shouldn't be covered in oil.
