2000 honda civic ex 4dr adjusting headlights vertically
I searched the forum and even looked at the service manual sheets on the DIY.
Just went outside with a flashlight and my headlight only has the horizonal adjustment. the pictures for the 99-00 model on the service manual sheets in DIY show the vertical one being able to be accessed through a hole next to one of the headlight bolts. My headlight doesnt have anything like that.
Here is a picture I found and it looks extremely similar if not the exact same back view of my headlight of what I can see of it with a flashlight.
Please let me know if anyone can help..
Thanks so much

Both headlights are missing the vertical adjuster? Have the headlights been replaced? Are they stock or aftermarket?

I'm not sure. The brand and number on the driver side headlight is Honda. Stanley. R7660L
I just took another look hoping the one adjuster that is on it is the vertical adjuster and i'm upset to find out it seems like the horizontal indicator.
I even have a picture of the gear.

i also found a bolt that is on the picture of the back view on my first post. it seems like it could be the vertical gear. but i can barely get a rachet or socket in it. i used a wrench to turn it a little bit but as i was turning it i was watching the bulb and i didnt seem any movement at all.

The photo you posted in the first post I think shows both. One is almost dead center of the light, under the "outside" upper bracket.
The idea is you use a Phillips screwdriver and fit it into the little plastic notch next to the gear. You turn the gear using the teeth. You're not meant to twist the bolt on the back. That's just holding the adjuster on I think...

Re: 2000 honda civic ex 4dr adjusting headlights vertically
Thank you. Well the 2nd picture I posted is of my actual back of headlight in my car. I can't use the forum instuction you posted to adjust the lights because my those instrucions dont seem to work for my car. The only adjusters on the back of my headlight are in the picture I posted yesterday of those 2 Gears. problem is i think those gears in my picture arefor horizontal because one says L | R. (left or right, which would be horizontal)

Also you stated the gear basically dead center on back of headlight. the only thing i see dead center is that bolt i told you about and you said that it isnt meant to be turned.
Please let me know.
thanks

Your headlights are the stock lights.
If your middle gear has only a bolt then the gear has either been removed, lost or broken. You cannot buy that part separately if I'm remembering correctly, so you'd need to get replacement used lights from a wrecking yard or someone selling a set of used OE ones (new from Honda is very expensive).
The vertical adjust gear is sort of recessed btw.

Here are some pics I just took to try to better illustrate what your light should look like on the backside and how the adjustment takes place. This is a PASSENGER SIDE light btw.
First, the general backside of the light. The horizontal adjustment is on the inner side (left, in the pic) and the vertical adjustment is on the outer side (right, in the pic).
And the same thing, but as it would be seen from above instead. This time the red circles only circle where the Phillips screwdriver should be slipped into the area behind the light assembly.
Here's the horizontal adjuster up close.
And here's how you adjust the horizontal level with a Phillips screwdriver.
And how horizontal adjustment would appear from behind the light.

^ She said everything I was going to. Except be careful when doing it. On my headlights several of the "Teeth" have been rolled over/broken off making it quite hard to adjust them.

Re: 2000 honda civic ex 4dr adjusting headlights vertically
So i finally figured it out. I can get to the vertical gear with a screwdriver on a slant. question is if i want to point them up more i turn screwdriver to left or right?
I moved them both to the right alot but i was looking inside headlight as i was moving the gear? i could'nt see anything moving? what is suppose to move inside the headlight?
