2000 Honda Civic DX heater issue
I have a 2000 honda civic dx for a few weeks when ever i used the A/C or the heat i would hear this rattling noise. i was driving one morning and had the heat on full blast and smoke started coming out of the glove compartment so i shut it off. the next day i tryed to turn the heat on and it was not working at all and did not make any noise or even turn on at all, also it smells like a burnt motor in the car.
What could be the problem?
Do i need to replace the hole heater core?
how much will this repair cost including labor?
Are these repairs usually expensive?

Sounds like the blower motor behind the glove box is fried. After removal of three screws and unplugging the connector, it drops down and out. Also check for shorted wires and blown blower motor fuses.

Ron gave you a walk through of how to do it, so you SHOULD be able to do it on your own with no labor. Christ I think my sister could be talked through it. Its a 30 min job for a skilled mechanic, possibly an hour if its not your thing. Also depends on if you go buy a new motor, or salvage one from a wrecking yard.

Before replacing the motor, first check whether it works or not. This can be done by supplying it with power and ground to see whether it runs. If not, then replace it.
