2000 EX, GSR Swapped, Car Bogging/Speedo Spazzing
Alright guys, I know it's going to end up being something stupid, but I can't figure this out haha. The car's a 2000 EX, with an OBD2 GSR block/tranny, B16 head, everythings legit (poor man's type r). The car ran perfect, until last night. The car bogs terribly at 5,000rpmish when floored, and the speedometer spazzes out. Taking the foot off the gas, there is no problem with the speedo, and corrects itself. Driving normal, the car is fine, but when floored, it just falls on its face at 5,000. I replaced the rotor and coilpack, I'm getting a cap tomorrow, and that's the only thing I found wrong with the car. I can see the rotor and coilpack affecting this, and even the cap, but the cap really doesn't look bad, just has a small crack. I can't see this causing this much, I'm thinking dizzy guts? Anyone?
Also, my car seems like it's running rich now... Dizzy, or sensors it seems like?

I had the same problem last night actually. I have a water leak on the passenger side, which shorted out the "C" connector on the ECU. My speedometer spazzed out, my car fell on its face as I tried to accelerate, and I threw a check engine light. The next day, the connector dried out, and my car came back to life. It might be worth a look. I'm assuming your car is OBD2B, I have a 1999 Coupe B18C ITR swap.

Sounds like VTEC is not engaging. Have you checked the harness connector for the VSS in the transmission? Is the Check Engine light on?

No check engine, the VSS seems to be fine, I thought the same thing, which would explain the speedo too, but idk. If I downshift from 4th to third, it runs fine, like catching it in VTEC, but it won't cross on it's own if floored.

It could be a issue with your ICM, but its weird that you can get it to run if you downshift. it really doesnt make much sense. usually things either act up or they dont.

Yeah that's why I was thinking the ignitor or something like that. Like, if I'm at let's say 4k in 4th gear, I can downshift into VTEC in 3rd, and rip 3rd, 4th, and 5th just fine, but 1, 2, and 3 at first are useless.

thats pretty weird. Like I said before, stuff usually works or it doesnt.

Just cleaned my grounds, wasn't the best contact because of the bay being sprayed for a tuck, checked my wires again, everything looks fine, and it still does it. I looked at the VSS plug, and it looks a bit dirtyish, but can't really tell because of it being dark out? But like I said, I can't see the VSS making the car fall on its face.

I just checked againfor any codes being thrown, it's throwing a 21, VTEC. Any idea? I unplugged the VTEC solenoid, and it still boggs at 5k though.

I'm thinking, the igniter? Because it would mess up the speedo, and cause it to bog, and if it doesn't read you're moving, VTEC won't cross. Correct?

The VSS seems fine, pulled it out, cleaned off contacts and everything, still does the same thing. I'm not about to just buy a new VSS for $100+ dollars when it's not the problem...

Do you have any friends with a ECU you can barrow? Might be worth it swapping out, and checking if it's the ECU

Eh, yeah I can try to borrow a ECU to check it, I'm still leaning towards the dizzy... It seems to be leaning out when I press the guess, or at least at idle. It idles like 45psi, and as a put on the gas, it reaches about 33ish psi at about 5k... Hmmm. But it smells like it's running rich?
