2000 EM1 build...your opinoons please.
Hey guys, after searching for several months I finally picked up a bone stock EM1. I am preparing to build this as a tribute car. We all know the EM1 has been raped by adolescent "tuners"...totaled, wiring everywhere, bolting on every random part....etc.
My goal here is cleanliness. I am going to keep the B16A2 pretty much stock, save for street cams (CTR profile or the like) and a good management system with a solid tune. Factory rims, slight engine bay tuck, remove AC but not PS, remove sound deadening but replace the carpet, or go with just floor mats and the sheet metal floor pan.
I have been dreaming of this build since I glimpsed the car in early 2000's. Since my entrance into this community I have built an ls/vtec turbo eg coupe, all motor ek9, integra type r, and supercharged ek coupe. all my cars have been gutted and caged. This is where I need help, I want to nimble this car up, but retain the spirit of the EM1.
Thanks for all your opinions, I will consider them all.

well when i got my EM1 it was bone stock with 136k miles. this was the build i did. (keep in mine i was 18 lol) I installed a under drive pulley, deleted AC and PS, installed an intake, ran a test pipe with an HKS HIGH POWER muffler, MSD power cap, ext coil, and 8.5mm wires, short throw shifter, lower it on it's nuts, (i could fit my fist under the side skirts thats it) removed my sound deadening, rear seats, and carpeting, kept the door panels, installed a front strut tower brace, and ran 17" koni unknowns, lower profile tires, it was def a good looking car,

Get a nice set of coilovers, some poly bushings and a rear sway bar and you should be set if you just looking for minimal yet nimble.

i am only give my option, since you are asking for them...........
I find it interesting that you wish to leave the B16a in there, and in stock fasion, yet are will to delete both the p/s and a/c, plus do a wire tuck. If you are going to the trouble, why not find a b18c short block for some added drivability.
I bought my EM1 in 09, keeping it clean also. I upgraded the seats, suspension, and engine.....i am almost done!

Re: 2000 EM1 build...your opinoons please.
Thanks for all your comments so far guys.
Yes, I already have an alarm. 5 fuel pump cut off switches removable ignition coil fuse...etc. I realize the rarity and how easily these cars can be stolen.
I want to keep the B16A2 because this is going to be a tribute car. The factory suspension, motor, steering and braking of this car still allow it to stand out, even when compared with the 2012
Civic SI (there is a good comparison video on youtube.) So I want to highlight the features that made this car what it is. I've seen hundreds of B18's with turbo's, blowers. The k-swaps are fairly common now....I realize that this is not going to be the quickest car out there. But I want it to be a car where all the Honda guys like me can look at it and appreciate a good build of a dying car. We don't see EM1's everyday anymore...At least not where I live.
So far...
-Falken rubber on the factory rims.
-replaced the factory soft brake lines, with braided (more responsive braking)
-Purchased new carpet (black) Gonna remove all excess sound deadening material from floor pan, then strip down the fresh carpet to the bare minimum.
-Tein fully adjustable coilovers (only thing I'm changing on suspension)
-still deciding on cams (CTR, Crower stage 1, Skunk 2 stage 1.....?)
-I custom fabbed 2.25" exhaust (all v-band) with thermal r&D muffler
-Still deciding on a header (stay factory? toda? skunk 2? Dc sports?)
-Type R seats? S2000 seats? I'm going to be using factory seat belts, so without harnesses something with some solid lumbar support will be nice.
I'm still debating what to clean up in the engine bay. Your recommendations are always considered...
I haven't done a dyno comparison of headers on the B16A2 yet, so if you guys have results please let me know.
Keep it coming, pictures soon.
BTW Its Blue Electron Pearl

Re: 2000 EM1 build...your opinoons please.
Thought I would head this one off at the pass...
I did say "5" fuel pump cut off switches. And I meant it.
I have a hidden switch panel that I use these switched in a coordinated manner....E.G. Some are mounted to be operated vertically and some horizontally. This way I can create a pattern with the switches.
I also relocated the fuel pump signal wire so It can't simply be jumped. This is a really good anti theft device for those looking for one.

The header will be debated forever, but you can rest assured that the Toda header is one of the best on the market.
Cams, I would recommend the skunk2 because people seem to have great results with them.
Any reason you chose the Tein coilovers? They are a little steep in price and you can get much more for your money choosing a coilover from D2, Progress and so on.

Well, it sounds like you are keep "some" parts original, and some not. This is what i did also if you go through my build thread in my sig. I have worked for Honda for many years and appreciate what parts are worth keeping stock and what can be tastefully upgraded.
I built a 2000 (matching year to my EM1) jdm B18C-R, and restored the 4.7fd tranny also. What is cool about it is, it LOOKS stock to the regular eye. I am even able to reuse the original wire harness, it all just plus in The upgrade in tq, and just zipping around town is worth it imo.
Here's a shot of my mostly stock and clean engine bay

Been following yours since you started it. THIS one hasn't even started. Not even one solitary photo of the project car in question.
