Is 2.25" midsections really a 1.75"?

Is 2.25" midsections really a 1.75"?
I've bought a few mid sections over the last four years and they all seem to be very similar.
They all claim to be 2.25" (and for the most par they are), but they all have a tip that narrows down to 1.75" (like stock ).
Do all midsections have that nasty bottleneck at the end? And is there anything I can or should do about it?
My first one was by "Reactive" and the new one is by "Vibrant."

The pipe is 2.25" inner diameter, but at the end (where the axleback hooks up) there is a piece welded on that creates a 1.75" bottle neck.

that's weird... sounds like a restrictor to create backpressure... (since stock engines lose a lot of low-end torque with the bigger exhaust piping)... smells like rice to me

Vibrants are good systems, it shouldnt do that....hmmm. That's definitely not good though. Is there a reason (IE something blocking exhaust path) that warrants the piping being smaller in that section?

Well, this is how my exhaust setup goes: 4-2-1 header, free flow cat, 2.25" midsection (or so they claim), and a CTR axleback.
It looks like it takes a bit more work to put that "restrictor" on so maybe it does serve some purpose? Should I leave it there?

Since it's going on a daily driver, it probably is .

I'm assuming all of the exhausts you've dealt with were designed to utilize the stock donut gaskets. That is why the "bottleneck" is there, and if you can replace it with a similar joint that is of a larger diameter, I'd recommend doing so.

It does use a donut gasket, but the bottleneck gets so narrow that the gasket wobbles on it. I use ITR gasket cause it's so much easier to get than CTR and it's the same size.
How much should I expect to pay to get the tip replaced (a bigger one put on)?

The cost for such work unfortunately varies quite a bit depending upon the shop. I would estimate somewhere in the $75 dollar range, depending upon the type of flanges being installed.

id think it would be a little cheaper than that but yea it does vary. i paid 80 for a full 2 1/4 cat back minus the muffler witch i allready had. and its 2 1/4 all the way.

That sounds kind of steep.
I already paid over $200 for the midsection and shipping.
Would it be bad if I just left it like that?
Since it’s made by a reputable company, I'm more really afraid of power loss, but I am a little concerned of a possibility of raspy noise.
