1997 Honda Civic has rust spots on the body?
Ok, so i noticed my civic has little rust spots. i was wondering what do these rust spots mean? is it normal for an old car like mines to have them? is it really bad? what can i do about it? hahaha. I'm kind of worried about it. It's the original "Granada Black Pearl" paint. i looked up my paint code on the door and i found some touch up paint kits with like a small brush. would that be any good to seal the gash? please someone look at the pictures and help! I'm worried. :[ THANKS!!!

It means your car is rusting. Possibly scratches that went through the paint that were not dealt with. How bad is it? You won't know until you sand back some of the paint in that area to expose the entire problem. I would not recommend you using touchup paint to cover that up without dealing with the rust by totally removing it.

if thats the top of the car, take off the headliner and look and see if the rust permetrates into the inside of the roof metal. if not, just sand the outside until you get bare metal, use a good primer/sealer and have the area spot painted. it will look a lot better than touch up paint.

yea....sand out the rust....get to bare metal, prime, then if nothing else hit it with touch up paint.
Remember though....touch up paint is going to be exact. 15 year old car paint thats sat in the sun for 3,000 days isnt going to match the $7 touch up paint you buy brand new/only way to really fix it is to have it painted.
However black cars are the easiest to fix. Sand the paint down carefully...and prime paint it VERY VERY light coats...and alot of them.
Will it be perfect? no
Will it look better then now? yep
will it stop the rust thats there from spreading? Yes
